Pretty much all of 'em [&:]

lighthearted -> RE: traits you wish you didn't have? (6/21/2008 4:59:57 PM)

I tend to dwell too much on things that I can't do anything about.  I also tend to feel guilty about things I shouldn't.  you'd almost think I was raised Catholic.  (no offense to Catholics, that is.)

I wish I wasn't so emotionally labile, a procrastinator or so stubborn.

so an earlier post got me thinking...

do you have any personality traits you wish you DIDN'T have?

- I wish i could get over having my father's sense of tact. i'm about as blunt as a jackhammer. i can't even tell white lies well.

-I swear too much, and get angry too easily (though not nearly as easily or as often some of the responses i've gotten would make you believe lol)

-I'm really not all that concerned about what 'polite' society says. it's not that i'm not concerned with taste or class or whatever, it's more that i think that they have their place and that place looses importance in certain situations. sometimes i wish i could be a little less redneck/angry hick and a little more cultured.

i know that these can all be worked on but it's where it stands right now.

I wish I wasn't so brilliant, handsome, capable...but most of all...humble.

(It's very stifling).

jlf1961 -> RE: traits you wish you didn't have? (6/21/2008 6:15:30 PM)

Traits I wish I didnt have?  That is easy!
1) Ability to retain facts that are completely useless outside the academic world, military world and totally useless after 1450AD
2) Short Temper.
3) Lack of diplomacy and tact.  I mean, Will Rogers once said, "Diplomacy is the act of saying nice doggy while looking for a big rock."
In my case, it is beating the crap outa someone with the big rock until they see reason, and come around to my point of view.
4) My tendency to agree to follow doctors orders until I leave the office and then through the orders out the window and do what I want.
5) I need to be less of an optimist and quit expecting the worst possible outcome for the world in general and humans in particular.

Now, in no way shape or form is my enjoyment of practical jokes a trait I need to get rid of!!! (Hint Hint Greedy)
There is nothing wrong with sabatoging toothpaste, changing the toilet paper roll, dropping four red shop towels into my sisters load of whites.....

And there is really nothing wrong in pointing out simple truths without giving all the facts... it is true most jet engines are held to the plane with 3 bolts.... and asking someone if the wings are supposed to flex up and down is not wrong, nor is it wrong to suggest the reason the wings are doing that is because of how many flights the aircraft has taken.... And there is really nothing wrong to complain about not being able to declare a parachute as carry on, OR asking if the plane you are boarding is any of the same types of jets that had parts of their fusulage come off in flight.....

abcbsex -> RE: traits you wish you didn't have? (6/21/2008 7:20:50 PM)

I wish my temper didn't flare up so randomly during arguments... and that when the temper does flare up, I'd be better at admitting I was wrong.

SweetNika -> RE: traits you wish you didn't have? (6/21/2008 7:25:35 PM)

I wish I wasn't so sceptical.

So, are you saying that the following skills are useful in the modern world:
Fletching, blade smith, siege engineering, blacksmithing, forging, forging of torture devices, celestial navigation using an astrolobe, hullwright, rigger, galley shipwright, drakar shipwright, caraval construction.....

christine1 -> RE: traits you wish you didn't have? (6/21/2008 8:01:47 PM)

You'll get around to changing that eventually.

excuse me, lighthearted, but I have not found a market for an Iron Maiden, a pendulum (the kind with real sharp edge) or a spiked inquisitor.

Dude, your shipwright skills are markerable , of course, restoring/repairing fine wooden vessels. Folks that own and cherish them are used to paying through the nose to maintain them. Also, I know from experience, that those skills are in demand in places like Key West where likewise loaded folks don't mind paying for those skills being put to work restoring houses, some of which were built by shipwrights originally.

I also know a farrier who makes very good money, although he has to travel quite a bit. I dunno if your blacksmithingforging skills would apply.

Finaly, if you are into felching, you can always pick up a few extra bucks in porno movies...
