I've been searching for floggers, nipple clamps, ankle/wrist restraints etc on ebay. However, it's difficult to tell whether these items are decent or not. I've purchased some items on ebay and probably 90% was fine, but at the prices for a 'good' leather item, I really hesitate to risk that kind of money and find out the item was a piece of junk.

Sometimes, you just can't tell by the photo.

Thanks for any input.

Well if he/she has alotta sales and good feedback, you can be fairly certain of them. They wouldn't last long otherwise. The net is a cold, cruel world........

just read a few posts if you doubt.

I agree that you need to read the feedback and get someone that has a good rating. Then you can feel fairly safe ordering from them.

Well I operate a small commercial dungeon in San Francisco and have access to some of the finest bdsm gear in the world. I purchase so much, that I am on a first name basis with most of the shops in the bay, but it is and they are, expensive. I try to supplement purchases at lower cost from e-bay. My experience is that the items I recieve from ebay are adequate but not extraordinary. The single sleeve and single tail I bought online from them were (while functional) quickly shoved to the back and I went to the big Leather and Fetters store here to upgrade. The ebay autoclave, organic hemp and steel spidergag/ Pu**y hook were outstanding. I decided to cut costs by setting up a leather making operation and the semi-industrial sewing machine was great too. So shop carefully --- I think, over all, Im still ahead shopping with e-bay. Mss. I have bought from E-Bay and was happy with my item. You have to look at the users other items and their feedback. I have heard about a fetishauctioneer site, but have not used it yet. Thinking of selling some stuff and have to decide between the two.

I just checked out FetishAuctioneer.. and was very disappointed to see that hardly anything had bids .. any idea why? I was going to sell there, but decided against it, due to lack of interest it seems.. I'll stick to my website instead..

I've had 40-60 success on fetish auctioneer as a buyer. 40% positive...60% ripped off. I expect most are like this..unless they have stuck to the few who don't rip people off.

Which is no doubt why the bids are down. What I did receive it was great merchandise.
At least Ebay protects you even if they do make things hard to sell.

I've bought a number of kinky things off ebay over the years. For the most part, the items that I got were good quality except for a couple of floggers years ago (but then...you can't buy a good flogger under $50). But keep in mind, I was always very careful in selecting items - I chose items that were not "cheap" for what they were, were returnable, and well described. My strategy was often to buy a small, inexpensive item from a particular vendor, like a leather cock ring...if I liked how it was made, I would then be comfortable going back and buying again from that vendor.

If it's a big ticket item you are looking for, I wouldn't go through eBay. Your best bet is to either buy at a local fetish flea market, kink store, or through the web from a reputable vendor/craftsman. One way to find reputable vendors is ask those you meet at play parties or the like where they got that flogger/paddle/straightjacket that they have that you like.

I recently spent $400 on a single tail. I got it from a reputable vendor at a fetish flea where I was able to handle (and drool over it LOL) before I plunked down the cash. I would be very hesitant to spend that kind of money over the web on a whip, and I would *never* have spent that kind of money on eBay.

E-Bay is always hit or miss; however, make sure you check the sellers record and feedback. Also, if you have questions about the item send an email to the seller and ask!

Hi there,

We sell quality leather items on eBay. If you are interested in anything let us know, we will give you free shipping on your purchase and a 100% satisfaction guarantee or a complete refund. There are a lot of people who sell junk and we are not one of them.

Thanks!

Thanks for input. Everyone is right, there are good things and bad things on ebay. I've been happy with most of the floggers I've purchased, but not with nipple clamps. Go figure.

Now I have a large collection of floggers, and no one to use them on me!!!

LOL!!!

(Somehow whipping one's self just isn't the same...)

I've never bought anything from Ebay but everyone I know who has has had good results. Buy from someone with a good rating, remember that if a price is to good to be true it probably is, and stick with things that wont hurt anything if they arn't of top quality.

I have bought a few different things from e-bay before and never have been cheated. However, in terms of bondage gear I found the quality rather poor.

If you want to buy any type of clamps, whips and the kind I would strongly advice you to go to the well known places like Fetters or Fettered Pleasures, Quality Control, Regulation, Expectation and the rest.

I used to try my best to save money on equipments. I ended up learning on the hard way that you are paying for the actual quality and reliability. Once you buy something it will stay with you and that is what you are going to be using. If the gear is not a 100% it should not be used for safety reasons. If something is very cheap there is a reason for that. It is used, faulty, old or about to brake. At the end you will end up buying all your gear from the above mentioned companies because everything else will break on you so you will end up paying twice.

If you really want to save money: GO STRAIGHT TO THE BEST ONES AND DO NOT BOTHER WITH THE FAKES.

There's a store on there called Leather Tech, based up in Ohio that sells pretty solid stuff. I recently bought a leather paddle from them and I was impressed with the quality for the price (About $10 with shipping). The shipping was lightning fast and I will definitely be buying from them again. Their bondage selection is, unfortunately, not as expansive as I would like, but they do sell a ton of other leather goods such as jackets, vests, chaps, thongs, tops, etc. Definitely worth checking out if you get the chance to browse there.
