Concerning the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, which starts in 2 months, a group has predicted that China will win more medals than the US but in a nail-biter. They have China winning 88 and the US winning 87. Third place is Russia with 79, and then well behind would be Germany with 43. The group says that the Chinese and US teams are very strong but gives the edge to China for being the host nation. However another Olympic forecaster in Italy has predicted the US to win more medals and more gold medals than China. There is a surprise. Shamateurism has given way to professionalism a long time ago and the US is where the money and commercial interest is so that is where many of the best athletes will be produced. As for China, in good old communist tradition, their athletes are really professional too and their sole aim in life if glory for the country. I can't say I'm that interested in the Olympics, its all an expensive and pointless sham. However, I would be heartily warmed to see poor African athletes do well in the distance running where an individual can still top the world through talent and dogged perseverence alone.

Oh God, is the Olympics this August? The French have the right idea, take the whole month of August off. Just what I need to be doing, watching wealthy people's children "competing" against each other! Fuck the Olympics. It used to be a competition for amateurs and amateurs only. Now these people are professional athletes. It's a fucking farce. I hate to admit this, but I laugh my ass off when the "Dream Team" loses to some Eastern European team in basketball. Bunch of arrogant pricks getting what they deserve. [:D]
