bipolar, do you happen to be talking about Robert Heinlien ? The guy who said something like "A Man should be able to change a diaper, con a ship, plan an invasion, give orders, take orders, prepare a meal.........specialization is for insects" ?

Hippie, wow, we totally agree on something.

Now what to do with it. Historically governments want more people, more people to govern, to contribute to the GDP, more people to tax. However as pointed out, China has finally had enough.

I also agree that it is not these tiny third world nations causing the problem, at least for the most part. They might have a million or two people, but they are living in huts, eating clay or bugs or who knows what else. They are not buying TVs and driving around in SUVs.

China has taken a step forward by putting up strong disincentives for people who have more than 2 (?) kids, something like that. It is time for the rest of the larger nations to do something similar.

Granted it is unConstitutional and wrong to force abortions or sterilizations, but there is nothing wrong with incentives. Monetary incentives would easily pay for thenselves. Even among the working, kids use resources.

Eliminate tax breaks for any kids after the first two, and people on public assistance get no more money after one. You had the kids, it is not my job to support them. Get tough, or life is going to get tough on everybody.

I can't think of many of the world's problems that would not be solved or at least abated by a reduction in population.

To be more precise, the population has exceeded the Earth's carrying capacity.

Well then I suggest that we cut off foriegn food and medical shipments, stop looking for a cure for AIDS/Ebola / Etc and stop trying to extend the lifespans of the third world. Perhaps we can disband the "Save the Children" foundation and just euthanize the surplus ones and allow nature to take its course? Maybe we can stop interfering in genocides?  Depopulation is readily achieveable.  Oh wait, but that would make us "neocons" wouldnt it???  I mean Obamas spiritual advisor says the Republicans invented AIDS for that very purpose...

Believe it or not DA, I agree up until the last two sentences. It's not that I disagree with the last two sentences it's just that I am not talking about that right now.

Thing is we were warned about overpopulation 20 to 30 years ago and nobody listened.

Research was done, and I've read a few things about what happens to animals. I posted an article about it a while back and nobody read it. Maybe that was because it is in JPG format, as my OCR software isn't good enough to pick it up properly. Maybe someday I will just type the damn thing out, or get someone else to do it. It dealt with several different species, and was exceedingly interesting.

Man generally is defined by his ability to ignore his animal instincts, or at least supress them to the point where he can live comfortably in a human society. There are two possible factors in one's failure to achieve this. One is a poorly developed self comtrol mechanism, and the other is that one could be burdened with much stronger animal impulses than they can handle.

So as much as we may bitch about certain people, some are simply overburdened with their primal impulses. Some people's instinct tells them to have a bunch of kids, and among those are they who will think about whether they can afford to feed them or not. Others don't care and I call that basic immaturity. In other words they have reached animal maturity, but not human maturity.

Societal influences can be direct, to the human part of a person, but then there are the influences on the primal side of us. While the most able to cope can, some can't. But even if one can cope, these innate influences should not be ignored in any comprehensive study or disscussion of human nature. Even if one can cope, some are fighting more.

If you live in the city, there is a certain stress level imposed upon you, simply by the overcrowding factor. On the concious level you may be annoyed by your neighbors music or something like that, but just the fact that they are there is also a factor in what I would call your aggravation quotient. This is when a human being uses logic and thought to set aside those primal impulses, and not act on those impulses.

I will put up links one more time to that article if one person says they will read the damn thing. Otherwise I will not waste my time.

Some may not want to read it as it supports my opinion(s). If so fine.

More later, now I must go to work to support the welfare mothers with 19 kids.
