luvdragonx -> Words you can never spell right (11/6/2005 12:37:24 AM)

This is what happens when you stay up too late.

I always mess up resterant--no resteraunt--restaurant - see? I had to go look it up. For some reason everytime I try to spell it, I think of some song from Sesame Street.

One word that I can actually spell right but requires some thought is 'conscience', or any variations thereof. I use the line from 'As Good as it Gets' when Carol is trying to write the letter "That doesn't look right - Con - science?" It works and I never misspell it.

i'm not a great speller i admit it.
but i find my biggest problems are reversing letters. liek=like godo=good ot-to. i do this all the time or i hit the ; instead of the l.

kisshou -> RE: Words you can never spell right (11/6/2005 4:01:13 AM)

for me it is always that weird ..i before e , except after c rule

I always mess up words with the ie combination

mnottertail -> RE: Words you can never spell right (11/6/2005 5:01:04 AM)

exactly so kisshou--

their--thier....neither one looks right to me. and I can properly spell some words that are above average length. even a few in other languages, but their--thier will always be wrong.

i before e except after c--- that often seems to be the exception and not the rule..........LOL

Whether/wether/weather, Dilema/Dilemma... Always have to stop and think, or check the dictionary.

Oh, who am I kidding? There are just so many words, lol.... M

DesertRat -> RE: Words you can never spell right (11/6/2005 7:56:59 AM)

I have trouble with "vacuum".

LuckyAlbatross -> RE: Words you can never spell right (11/6/2005 8:41:09 AM)

Used to be independent/independence, but I figured it out (I think).

But I will never never never never figure out the correct applications of "affect/effect" I've studied it, had it explained to me VERY well at least a dozen times and it just doesn't stick.

MsIncognito -> RE: Words you can never spell right (11/6/2005 9:05:18 AM)

Double consonants trip me up every time, especially when adding suffixes. I have a problem, with, comma abuse, too. [:D]

sanita -> RE: Words you can never spell right (11/6/2005 9:58:58 AM)

if it helps:

i had a friend in Jr. High that had trouble with "restaurant" and would always say outloud, "rest"-"a"-"u"-"rant."

Now, whenever i have to write that word, i actually hear that in my head.

And my problem is the whole gerund thing. i second guess myself so often with adding an "ing" to words where i have to chop off the "e" at the end, first.

Like: Receiving/receive and i want to put the "e" before the "ing" as in Receiveing. and that just get messier.

-"sani"

KatyLied -> RE: Words you can never spell right (11/6/2005 11:08:54 AM)

committment....how many "m"s, how many "t"s? Same problem with committed. Those words never look right to me. But they feel right.

RosaB -> RE: Words you can never spell right (11/6/2005 11:25:49 AM)

That's the one that trips me up most of the time. I end up just writing "nec" others "their, calander, calender, principal, principle, the list can go on and on for me. And to think I was always a top notch speller when it came to testing in school, or should that be scool. LOL

I'm with you Em... never sticks in my head either so often avoid using then as a written words. At least spoken they sound similar. [;)]

domtimothy46176 -> RE: Words you can never spell right (11/7/2005 7:30:54 PM)

neccessary and necessary, and I interchange them regularly, lol. I do the same with most words that end in ble such as responsible and responsable. One time I'll spell it ible, the next time able. At this point I've accepted that my vocabulary is shrinking rather than growing or at least remaining stable.

I do not have any trouble with any of these words. However I am utterly and completely hopeless when it comes to all things mathematical.
