MsLaylasone -> What are your background musical preferences during scenes? (6/25/2008 4:50:05 PM)

Smiles, bowing appropriately with eyes downcast,

My Mistress during an end of our last scene was discussing with me our selection of background music for the scene. We have been trying to find the right style/artist/genre and I thought I would politely ask what some of yours are. We have been using Loreena McKennitt, wonder what she would think of that [;)]. Mistress Layla started to put on one of my old Enigma CD's but decided against it and choose Enya, that was an interesting combination to be spanked while listening to Enya... I have a wide variety including J-pop, err...no not for a scene..., I considered politely suggesting H.I.M. or maybe just an ambient one such as Kitaro. We are both kind of reaching here on this one. I am sure it would depend on the scene and whether she wants to keep me on edge or not through the use of the music. I am sure that would be an effective tool as well, if she made me listen to country music.

Thanks everyone for reading and answering beforehand,

Mistress Layla's one

Personally, I enjoy music while riding in a car.  When I am with someone else, I much prefer to hear the sounds they make - that is music to me.

I know that doesn't really help you since the two of you want music - but, in my opinion, music interferes with the natural harmony of breath and grunts.

** side question: Does anyone know the name of the cd's that were made specifically for scenes.. "dungeon music" or such, I heard about them and have actually heard them before but I don't know anything else about them"

To the OP: it greatly depends on many different factors. For me its all about creating a VIBE. music is only one part of that. as i mentioned in the post about "clothing/dresscodes recently" the Vibe feeds alot of energy into the scene just as a scene adds greatly to the vibe.

with that said: there are some great Industrial bands that make music that is not so hard hitting but have some great evil dungeon feel to it...plus some really useful beats that are paced perfectly for some very rythmic flogging spanking and whipping. almost trance inducing.

for a lighter scene that is a bit more sensual, I tend to go for the "Global Beats" type stuff. not quite techno where the focus is on the the intense beats but still more prevalent and rythmic then typical Global music.

I'm a big fan of AOL radio. you can create a free account to access the stations. Global beats, Ambient Beats, Trance, Industrial, Occasionally "Jungle/Drum and Base" work well too.

but again its all very fitting.

I do however Highly suggest picking up the "queen of the Damned" soundtrack for some delicious vampire-esque music:) My girlfriend and I ravage each other quite often to that one.

Cheers
Skully

Enigma, Kitaro, Ottmar Liebert, Babble, Talking Heads. And, my god--is there anything that J.J. Cale does not enhance?

One of the best bands out there for scene music imo is a band few have heard of here in the States. They're called Sirenia. Give em a go, they are amazing imo. Also some of Evanesence's stuff is great to me.
But seriously, Sirenia, I'm not kidding.

Peace and serenity,

Kittens by Underworld makes a great backdrop to caning. Anything by Underworld is a good choice.

Yo-Yo Ma playing the Bach Cello Suites.

The structure, restraint and beauty of the music brings me to a stillness and sets the tone.  It feels like everything is in it's place and as things should be.

I haven't expereinced much play with music in the background but...

Rippin Kitten by Miss Kitten....I was tied up and someone was doing knife play on me and she played it over and over again....

I was scared and so turned on...that song played in my head for a few days afterwards....

<Sigh>

For down tempo, chill, dark music, try Portishead and Massive Attack, and uh.. those like them. I've always had a soft spot for Bush's "Mouth".

I also like some sweet, soft bossanova for a sensual mood.

Enigma... or anything with those creepy, scarey ...yet kinda cool...undertones

SnowRanger -> RE: What are your background musical preferences during scenes? (6/25/2008 9:58:55 PM)

Hi A/all,

I had a session once that went several hours.  A radio played in the background. When a Man Loves a Woman came on three (yes three) times.
There used to be a band on the local circut in California called "Bitch."  They had a song called Be My Slave which I liked....

Here goes.... I love using music to enhance a scene!
For flogging and impact play, or strapon play:  NIN, "Closer"; Puddle of Mudd, "Control", Evenescance, "Wake Me Up Inside"
For sensory play/deprivation:  New Age, Classical, Instrumental
Humiliation:  Weathergirls, "It's Raining Men", or (forgot the artist), "So Many Men, So Little Time"  lol (kinda joking here!)

Music I like with a regular bass beat, with some changeups in rhythm really do it for me during impact play.  Who ever said ya can't dance while ya flog/spank/smack/hit/whatever?   "Don't Worry, Be Happy" ;)

HarryVanWinkle -> RE: What are your background musical preferences during scenes? (6/25/2008 10:58:20 PM)

Three words:  Ludwig Von Beethoven

You might add Theatre of Tragedy (2), The Sins of Thy Beloved, Trail of Tears, Tristania (2), Isengard, and a bunch of others (all links to YouTube). Norway has a ton of bands like Sirenia, mostly from the cities Stavanger and Bergen (where I live). Whether they're suitable for sessions is another matter. I wouldn't have pegged Sirenia as suitable, but I guess it depends on what you're doing and who you're doing it with.

For those who do performances, there should be something from each that would be good, though.

The problem with background music is the pacing, more than anything, IMO. You can't find very many good songs out there which have a pace that's suitable for the whole thing, and even if you know the track well, there will be times when the pace is wrong for what you had in mind and the mindspace the sub is in at the time. When it works, it works very well, and when it doesn't work, it doesn't work at all; at least, that's been my experience.

Do check out the music, though... it's good stuff, particularly the first link.

Health,
al-Aswad.

Edit: Somewhat calmer, different genre: Midnight Choir.

Smiles appreciatively,
Thank you all for contributing, please keep the suggestions coming. I had not anticipated so many varied genres. Ludwig Von...hmmm, reminds me a little of Clockwork Orange and would set me on edge a tiny bit, I will suggest it though. Mozart is a big favorite of mine and I think I will put that into the list. Maybe...Carl Orff as well... Alot of the groups mentioned I have not heard of yet or maybe I have and just don't recognize them. I wonder how she would feel about Nightwish. I think I'll sneak that onto the list, Evenescence hadn't thought of but very nice. Queen of the Damned soundtrack, hmmm I could take a few songs from that and a couple other soundtracks like the Blade Runner soundtrack and put a mix together. I am still smiling at the NIN suggestion, I like Trent alot I think my idea of a great concert would be NIN, Marilyn Manson and Rammstein. Still laughing about the Shultz, I don't quite know if I could do anything without bursting out laughing with that in the background, priceless. I would get in so much trouble. I think one of us has some Sirenia around, I will have to look that name is just too familiar. Talking Heads??? that got me thinking and an association came up, generally a bad thing, and Devo's Whip It instantly came to mind and I laughed so hard I almost fell off my chair. We will also try the AOL Radio, I listen to the Japanese Anime channel on it, uhmmm probably not good, that music sets my Mistresses teeth on edge. We have to use music during play becuase I live in a second floor apartment and our play area is in my home. I have a large room, actually the size of most peoples living rooms that has been cleared, cleaned and I am converting it into the "dungeon room." For an interesting change I am decorating it in a completely victorian style matching the paint scheme for the play furniture I am building, etc. Anyway, we use the music to mask for downstairs dwellers. My apartment is normally extremely quiet so any noise from me is immediately noticeable to them, I don't watch TV, except for the occasional DVD.

Bows head appropriately and wishes everyone a good day,

Mistress Layla's One

Gasping! I stole my screename from MissKittin, apparently I sound like her. It's nice, although rare, to hear her mentioned ever, she's very much 'cult'.
