The internet is great for getting to know someone at first. For safety issues, if nothing else. But wonder if others have had the same issues.

I am chatting, trying to get to know someone. Exchanging limits, seeing if we have the same fetishes. But seems that before long, questions and answers begin to overlap so much that, I am not sure where I am in the conversation.

The other problem is tone. Sometimes I become offended or the other party does, because of the way some statements come across typed, rather than spoken. Or misinterpreted. For example, the other party thinking I was agreeing to something (as in ownership) rather than agreeing with the idea or possibility.

While I would rather talk on the phone, I do prefer getting to know someone first. For this reason the internet seems the best and safest way to start. (I guess I should look into voice chat.) LOL

Lol i know what you mean, its too easy to misinterpret something when someone can't make any immediate replies or ask questions about straight away... i think i may have just scared someone off on email in the last few days... oops, hopefully not, but i have to agree i'm much more of a phone person! lol

Voice and/webcam chat. Makes much difference.
Although take care if you have sensitive hearing, you wouldnt imagine how one can fall for nice voice. Happened to me

No phone at first. Voice chat, webcam, classic chatting. And yes, I fell badly, could almost say I fell in love. I still am. I go crazy every morning when I hear his deep voice.

If voice is what you want. How about voice and in person at a local munch to you?
That way safety is there..plus you get to see the other person's emotions as well.

I am currently talking with a gentleman from Collar me who because of the confusion and misinterpretation involved with internet chat purchased a sound card, cam and speakers for my computer. He bought them on line at Best Buy and i was able to go to the local store and pick them up. There is nothing like voice chat...it is wonderful.

In person would be great all of the time. However not always possibly. I guess I should have been more specific, in that I was speaking of long distance conversations.

On the other hand, it's far easier to lie and play around online, in the short term at least, than it is in real life.

Before I got active in my local community (because there either wasn't one or I was too busy with other things) I met most people from online.

Now I almost universally people offline FIRST and then get their email.

Each has their own positive and negatives to it...I'd prefer just to meet them rt to suss them out and get a good feel for them. Since I'm so active and out, if someone wants to become a part of my life, they have to be willing to do that as well to a certain extent. Meeting them offline establishes that pretty quickly.

chatting has its good and bad points. i find that i have an easier time communicating in writing than i do in a face to face conversation. i can be more expressive and open. but, as you said, it is difficult to accurately express tone and often times words are misinterperated. meeting someone in person is ideal (if you're looking for a real life relationship). and phone is a great compromise ... especially for a long distance relationship. if the relationship is still brand new and a comfortable trust hasn't been built yet ... (with my phone company) you can dial *67 and your number won't show up on the other person's caller i.d. so you can still remail anonymous if that is a concern.

in the meantime .. enjoy the comedy. :)
