you know as with any other  group, you run into a  lot of gray  areas... I find it interesting in this country that people have to align themselves with  'groups' ... I  guess I just can't figure out why you have to be 'left wing' or right wing, or  conservative(which they aren't ) or liberal (which they aren't) ....  what the hell ...why can't we all just  do what we think is right without all the damn stupid labels...>OR  maybe its just Me... I 'm a  centrist Hawk, who thinks that  george II is a lying money hungry bastard,  driven by  corporate money hungry idiots  who care less for the american people ...  But  hey that's just Me :D

The right thing would allow the people the right to own a gun to protect themselves. I just dont understand the stupid arguement made by those who support gun bans.

Sorry...I dont trust the cops nor would I rely on them if I am in danger. It takes 15 mins to respond to a 911 call. If someone is breaking into my house, what do I do for those 15 mins? Pray?

Give me a break!

Smith117 -> RE: Supreme Court strikes down handgun ban (6/26/2008 8:23:45 AM)

You pray. . . And "spray."

HarryVanWinkle -> RE: Supreme Court strikes down handgun ban (6/26/2008 8:24:37 AM)

Oh my god!  With law abiding people allowed to have handguns, Washington D.C. will have the highest murder rate in the country!

Owner59 -> RE: Supreme Court strikes down handgun ban (6/26/2008 8:24:45 AM)

There`s a myth floating that DC residence were defenseless and with out firearms.

It was a ban on hand guns. You could have a rifle or shotgun in your home.

This law won`t make anyone safer.Lol,a few dopes will end up shooting themselves in the leg or shooting a family member/friend.

A shotgun is safer for the user and a better weapon against home invasion.

There was no lack of fire power for residents of DC.

This law will invariably add more handguns to the streets awash in guns and into criminal`s hands.

You just 'won', according to your philosophy. I fail to see why you're so worked up.

Personally, I think it's a tragedy. Oh well, business as usual.

Go back to Europe then.

Smith117 -> RE: Supreme Court strikes down handgun ban (6/26/2008 8:30:12 AM)

I'd rather have a small pistol than a large, heavy rifle or shotgun in my home. They're much more maneuverable and easy to store and get to in a hurry.

kittinSol -> RE: Supreme Court strikes down handgun ban (6/26/2008 8:30:13 AM)

Zen :-) .

I assure you the guns never left the criminal's hands during this ban. This decision will only finally allows the good people to own a gun.

We're all  centrists... in our own minds.

The scary part is that the vote was 5-4. Shows just how thin the ice we're standing on really is.

5-4

Interesting to see the perspectives of the same people who saw a recent 5-4 decision in the California Supreme Court to be a mandating landmark illustrating the great wisdom of the Justices. But in this instance the majority is required to write a "masterpiece of legal scholarship". More amazing is seeing this case as selective enforcement of the Constitution. But the best is calling it a "tragedy". It defines the liberal 'one true way' agenda. If something they want gets a 5-4 decision it is justice. A 5-4 going the other way - "tragedy". Can there be any more confirming a close minded agenda statement? Considering that statement as illustrating of a philosophy the only appropriate reference is that spoken by the alien in the movie 'Independence Day'; "Peace - there can be no peace!"

This is a Supreme Court ruling. It is the law. Need there be another reference regarding the enforcement of ALL laws? Yet, just like the California 5-4 ruling it is a law that doesn't require obedience. No one will be distributing hand guns to all. In the negative banter concerning the ruling you can observe again another attempt to enforce one persons philosophy on another's life. There should never be any doubt that at the extremes the left wing shares with the right wing the desire to infringe on the freedoms of those who don't share their fundamental religious dogma.

Observing the hypocrisy of perspective is just about the most amusing thing about these boards.

The D.C. law required those rifles and shotguns to be inoperable, too. Unloaded, disassembled, or otherwise disabled.

Well, that was on the rude side. But it does make me think of a question. We've had a lot of gun rights threads on here and I have noticed that it is often the case that people who are not Americans are sometimes the most vocal. I'm not asking this to be snarky but what is it about our gun laws that make people who don't live here and never have to deal with them firsthand care so much about them?

SCNebrDom45 -> RE: Supreme Court strikes down handgun ban (6/26/2008 8:40:19 AM)

Well regardless of how it all comes out in the end there will be  LOT of problems.... I can agree with some of the posts... I think it IS our right to own  guns, I do NOT think it's wise to  own a handgun for any purpose,  hand guns have only ONE purpose as do assault rifles, to kill people.  Here in Nebraska  'we' now have the right to bear CONCEALED weapons, all you have to do  is learn to shoot it and take classes taught by police officers who themselves go through a whole  2 months of training.... now THAT makes Me feel much safer!!  13 years in the military taught Me a few things, ONE Of which is that an idiot with a gun of ANYKIND Is still an idiot and is dangerous.  Prediction: it will take a few good citizens a few months to get this law  looked at a gain... just one joe schmoe on  the streets of DC, driving witha  gun beside him and a nervous cop.

kittinSol -> RE: Supreme Court strikes down handgun ban (6/26/2008 8:46:40 AM)

Hmmm... since you're obviously aiming at me I will specify that whilst the decision made by the Supreme Court is a tragedy in my opinion, it's one that we have to respect, and live by. I certainly am not one to go around crying 'foul' - I hear a lot of 'fouls' all the time following other controversial Supreme Court decisions, however. I think it's tragic: my sentiment shouldn't threaten you, or anybody else, for that matter.

Termyn8or -> RE: Supreme Court strikes down handgun ban (6/26/2008 8:47:51 AM)

Sorry I had to jump through, but everybody seems to miss the point. The people are meant to have the means to alter or abolish the government. Like someone said about picking apart the Constitution, I agree, read the whole fucking thing and it comes clear that the government they established was meant to be alterable or abolishable BY THE PEOPLE and that is WHY they cannot take our guns away.

I have to go now. I'll be baaaack.

Actually, I live in the States, erin. But it looks as though some people believe that being a foreigner takes away your right to speak, even if you partake fully in American society [>:] .

cyberdude611 -> RE: Supreme Court strikes down handgun ban (6/26/2008 8:48:26 AM)

It's amazing the attitudes with these rulings lately...no one wants to respect the system anymore.

I dont agree with everything the court rules on, but I respect their rulings and what they rule is the law.

And get them robbed(and put on the street)when out of the house or have them turned on the homeowner, as does happen often.

"guns never left the criminal's hands"

That`s kinda silly.DC police never confiscated any illegal handguns?Come again?

Again, why are you picking and choosing only the parts of the constitution you like and ignoring the rest?

If you`re going to tout yourself as a defender of the constitution, you really can`t defend just part of it,can you(and be credible)?

Why don`t you just say "I just love guns and fuck the constitution"?

That would be more honest and more in line with your conservitism.
