angel, you're so cute!  and i think it's very nice and fun loving of your co workers to do this with you.  it's one of my favorite holidays because i love the summer season and picnics and having fun with family and friends and i'm a sucker for fireworks.  one thing i haven't seen mentioned that my kids and i always have are rootbeer floats.

Corn on the cob, except for this year to spare the sensitivities of the teen with a mouthful of hardware.
Fruit salads or cakes with blueberries and strawberries. Barbecued chicken and ribs, grilled salmon for the adults.

Sorry angel, lurve to help you out but I don't celebrate the fourth of July.

Ummmmm, so what do we do here for Canada Day? Heaven knows they've already started selling the fireworks!

Woohoo LadyRain's first Canada Day  [sm=cheering.gif][sm=cheering.gif][sm=cheering.gif][sm=cheering.gif][sm=cheering.gif]

Break out the BBQ,  do hot dogs, burgers, steak, ribs, coleslaw, potato salad, beer, roast marshmallows. Attend different Canada day activities around the city, watch fireworks at dusk. Head to the beach, do a little dance, make a little love and get down tonite!

Quick Root Beer:
Overnight Root Beer (made in a milk jug) Time:  15 min Serves:  15 to 20
Ingredients
Instructions
2 1/2 c Sugar
3 tb Root beer extract
1 tb Dry yeast
Lukewarm water

[image]http://www.root-beer.org/images/rwblogos/warning.gif[/image]  Carbonation with yeast can cause extreme pressure (think champagne cork) and can even cause some containers (like milk jugs) to explode.

In a gallon jug with a tight-fitting lid, combine sugar, root beer extract and yeast.
Add enough lukewarm water to fill gallon jug.
Mix well.
Let stand at room temperature for 6 hours.
Place in refrigerator overnight or until completely chilled.

Or this:

Quick Root Beer (with Dry Ice) Time:  15 min Serves:  15 to 20
Ingredients
Instructions
Sugar, according to bottle directions
Recommended amount of water, chilled with ice
1 bottle root beer concentrate
3 lb. dry ice
1 clean bucket with tight fitting cover

[image]http://www.root-beer.org/images/rwblogos/warning.gif[/image]  Dry ice is EXTREMELY cold and can damage skin

Mix sugar and water in bucket; add concentrate.
Add dry ice, and sit on the bucket--you may want to release the pressure every now and then.
In about 15 minutes, you have really fizzy root beer.

[image]http://www.root-beer.org/images/rwblogos/warning.gif[/image] If you don't release the pressure every now and then, it may try to blow the top off! (We use it in high school physics or chemistry, often with the change-of-state lab involving ice cream.)

Root beer extract is usually found here in the local grocery stores in the spice section along with the vanilla extract. Or orange, almond, cherry or other flavoured extracts. These aren't homebrewed (I've made that too) but these are mighty tasty and work just as well.

soul2share -> RE: 4th of July winter picnic (6/27/2008 9:29:20 AM)

Our family used to have a huge clambake on the 4th.....also, don't forget the italian sausage, peppers and onions!  And sorry, but jello is a main staple for the 4th...tell 'em to eat it and shuttup!  Either that, or hide it in the cake!

Marinate the chicken in italian dressing....then BBQ it, using the dressing insted of BBQ sauce.....

Damn...now I'm hungry!
