What a concept, eh ? Our brains lie to us, the bastids. I like subtee's sig, wherein she notes, "Don't bekieve everything that you think ".  I know that sometimes, my mind thinks it can kill me and somehow survive the experience.

Anyway, I thought this was an interesting Op Ed piece in todays' NYT. Before the NYT haters start foaming at the mouth, I suggest you read the article. It applies to ALL of us, certainly, me included.  I think it's particularly important to consider this election year and in light of the political dialogues that some of us engage in here in these forums. It may help to temper our views. It's at least, imo, worthy of consideration.

      Nothing new here, Cj.  Propagandists have been relying on these techniques for a very long time.  Multiple sources, multiple interpretations, and most importantly, an individual comfort level with accepting uncertainty, are the best defense against such manipulations.

missterbation and Term , I apologize for going off on you earlier. The only excuse I have is that somebody pissed in my cereal this morning, m'kay ?

The reason I started this thread and linked to the OpEd pice is not that it's particularly "new" news. It's because, having participated in some heated political discussions on here, the piece reminded me of how our minds do, in fact work. I do need to remember , from time to time, so that I can be less attached to my own opinions and views and listen more openly to other points of view and try to be less heatedly reactive. I thought it might be a timely thing to consider in this election year.
