Honestly, she was yanking your chain because you are new to the lifestyle. I am sure there really is a wall of shame somewhere... and she can add your CM nick to it if she wishes. Anyone who checks there to see whether or not you'd make a worthwhle sub later in life isnt someone you need to be bothered with anyway.
Pros will ask for tribute (since they cant ask to be outright paid), con artists and scammers will ask for tribute as well. The difference being Pros are doing this as a job, and will deliver some sort of service for the money. Scammers will take the money and run. Online only you would be hard pressed to find a pro worth paying that sort of money to. Hell, even face to face youd be hard pressed to find someone who demands $1000 right off. Pros know their business, they arent going to make their prices so extravagent that you wont want to bother with them.
If it smells hinky, just walk away. There are reasons, after all, that your mind puts up those red flags. Trust your gut. You are new, that doesnt mean you are clueless after all.
