Don't forget, compulsive liars are out there as well... it seems that this often manifests as a need to sell a story to people who will be impressed by it... There's no point it telling the tale somewhere that the audience will be disinterested, or fail to understand what they're talking about... Sometimes they'll fail to do all the homework they should, and get called out by someone more experienced, but for every time that happens there will be a dozen times that their story makes a newbie say Wow!, and that's what it's all about... Happens just about everywhere.

I try not to be able to tell who has participated in what and who hasn't. To the people I have an inkling that they've never participated in what they claim they have...I just move on. I can never be 100% sure unless I was there actively watching them and I'm not about to make myself look like a fool for assuming something I don't already know. To those skilled enough to say something and make it believable despite haven't having participated in the activity, and I respond to it with belief, I give them kudos!

Beside the common wanker responses....

I would add that there are more than a few that think what they see on the forums is fantasy and they are participating in this great fantasy story..... Oh sure some people do some kinky stuff... but truthful those kinky things are rather tame and not near as over the edge that you read about, from time to time.  For many, it is a complete shock when they actually come out to events and witness what many do.  Hell... for some that are rather aware of what can and does occur... they can be shocked.

I must say.. that I find it much more interesting to see those that fabricate things and learn that some of what they think to be fantasy in their minds is actually someone's reality.

I know that some lie of the truth of things... and some don't believe what is the truth of things.  Regardless as interesting as it might be.. it really as very little direct consequence on me.  I know my truth and I am content with that.

I think of this when reading erotica that, prior to having any real-time experience, sounded hot.  Now that I know a l'il something about things ... it's pure bullshit.  It makes me want to take out my red pen and edit the crap out of the thing.

I had exchanged e-mails, then phone calls with a man who claimed to be a dominant. We arranged a meeting in a public place. I sort of knew from the moment we laid eyes on each other that it wasn't going to work. But we talked a bit and then he tried to convince me to go home with him. There's nothing wrong with not having experience, cuz obviously we all hafta start somewhere.  But I think some folks have manufactured every sort of skeery, OMG there are monsters in my closet scenario, to the point that they can't move beyond their fantasy world and gain any experience.  And some come across as downright neurotic.  [sm=insane.gif]

But if someone comes on here asking for advice from people who have 'been there, done that', then to me, it seems a tad arrogant or attention whorish for those who haven't 'been there, done that' to jump in and offer advice. 

It would be like me going over to a skydiving message board and giving advice, when I don't know doodly squat about skydiving other than you should probably make sure you're wearing a parachute before you jump...... and I'm sure someone else with actual experience would know a way to get around that! [;)]

It doesn't take a genius to figure out who prefers to live in a fantasy world and contribute based on fantasy, rather than reality. 

I know when I first got here, I had no experience beyond slightly kinky sex, so I read and learned.  As I actually gained real life experiences, then I was able to wade into a little deeper water, ask more detailed questions and actually offer up an opinion or advice based on my experiences.

Truthfully though, for those who live in fantasy land, I think the message board participants are all just characters in their fantasy world.  [sm=dunno.gif]
