candystripper -> The 'Stupid' Card (6/29/2008 12:37:02 PM)

There are a variety of ways I see the 'stupid' card played on CollarMe:

* You have a poorly written profile/email/post/whatever -- you must be stupid.

* What?  You're not interested in me?  You must be stupid.

* What?  You don't want to play 'domination games' online with me?  You must be stupid.

* What?  You dare to disagree with me? You must be stupid.

Frankly I'm a bit annoyed by this. There are people in D/s -- even in CollarMe -- who are not blessed with a three digit IQ.  So what?  When did being a genuis become a prerequisite for having a valid POV or seeking a partner or whatever a member might choose to do on this web site?

If you need to be 'protected' from stupid people, I'd find you unappealing and close-minded, but there are self-congratulatory clubs like MENSA you can join to get your fix.

Meanwhile a little more of the 'everyone is entitled to be treated with dignity and respect' motif suits better, IMO.

oh here we go...we get a thread like this every so often. it's the joy of being on a public board. does it piss me off? a little bit. but at the same time, i still stand behind the fact that internet communication is wrought with difficulties and i think there is a total of five people on the entire site who actually know me and about that many that i'll probably end up meeting in real life. i'm past the point of caring about what people think about me. and there was something that someone told me the last time a thread like this started-- for every person that posts that you aren't 'real' or 'twue' or 'stupid' or 'misguided' or whatever, there's a lurker somewhere that's glad that you said it because they have the same standpoint.

Myself I'm lucky...I'm so stupid I don't know when I am being stupid... people I'm sure keep trying to tell me but I don't bother to read replies. And that's the truth

I look at it another way.

Each time someone tells me 'You're stupid." what they're actually saying is "I'm too retarded to be able to understand your intelligence."

However if they say 'you're stupid' which comes that cold bucket of water moment of truth awareness making me agree I'm inclined to be grateful and admit it.

However I don't see this as a major issue.

Raechard -> RE: The 'Stupid' Card (6/29/2008 3:05:38 PM)

Stupid people have more fun because everything is fun to them:

Oh I've got a nose bleed wow
Oh my mouse has a little red light on the bottom I wonder what that will look like if I turn the lights off and wave it about in the air
Oh I wonder if I can get a load of small mirrors and line them up in my house so I can see my TV upstairs from downstairs. (no actually I'm going to try that.)

etc.

Also you know that dating site for intelligent people well I'm going to start one called www.moronicdating.com smart people will try to infiltrate it by pretending to be thick but I will simply ask them what their IQ is and they will have to boast because that is their weakness. We will take over the world and force intelligent people to live in caves and cannibalise one another.

Ponders if stupid card is like silly string.

KatyLied -> RE: The 'Stupid' Card (6/29/2008 3:24:18 PM)

I follow the Forest Gump view on stupidity:

Stupid is as stupid does.

I've seen people spout off about being MENSA, yet they are unable to string three words together that make sense and have poor judgment, not very impressive.

DesFIP -> RE: The 'Stupid' Card (6/29/2008 3:25:38 PM)

There's a difference between stupid and ignorant. People deliberately choosing to not learn deserve the chastisement they get. Such as asking for a few easy pointers to do breath play and claiming all they need to know is to release the throat when the person goes purple. Sorry, that's a set up for a murder charge which could be avoided by simply typing 'breath play' into google.

If they're capable of writing, they're capable of reading. Refusing to is lazy.

LaTigresse -> RE: The 'Stupid' Card (6/29/2008 3:57:33 PM)

Maybe my personal view of stupid is different than most. Generally it is not at all reflected in their IQ level but more in the common sense Q.

I am immune to my stupidity, I know it exists but don't really care. I am comfortable with me. I am always going to do stupid shit. However I will hopefully always be able to laugh at myself and learn from my stupidity.

What annoys me are the people who cannot see their own shit. They balance on pedestals only they cannot see the fragility of. It's usually trainwreck material. The sort I either avoid, or watch with morbid interest.....depending on the individual situation. Waiting to see how fast and far they will tumble. My stupidity is an urge to nudge the pedestal now and then to set it rocking.

On the local news a few years ago, there was a short piece on two Mensa members who were the proud parents of the youngest Mensa child in the world.  These two professors blah-dee-blahed about how BRILLIANT their little spawn was....how AMAZING her little brain was.  The whole thing made me want to puke.  At the very end, they did a close-up on the little girl (3 or 4 years old) who smiled knowingly for the camera and proclaimed, "D-A-O.   Dog!"

Love this! especially laughing at our own stupidity- none of us are immune!

except... sometimes it seems that people who are very observant and intelligent in many areas just can't see their own shit because it's too close. Kinda of a can't see the picture 'cause you're inside the frame sort of thing. Thats mostly why I try to keep friends who I trust to tap me on the shoulder and say "um, ya might want to think that over again... really".

Just my 2 cents :)

" What?  You dare to disagree with me? You must be stupid. "

that was the way I saw it, and what I was replying too
:)

Have you ever heard of the story of the Fox and the grapes?
Apply that here. Since you cannot have what you want, what you wanted must not really be worth having. For the Fox, the grapes were sour. For someone rejected, the rejectee must be stupid. Or fake, since only you are real. Or Married, becasue theres no way theyd not be interested if they were single.
So on so forth.

which goes to show, some parents shouldn't be pushing their kids so much and let them be kids... or they bite you in the face :)

It's actually not a card, it's more like a sign that you hang around their neck.
