dollparts85 -> picture of my new guinea pig! (6/29/2008 6:32:41 PM)

I adopted Mr. Wiggles Worth back on June 7th. He is settling in very well. Eats a ton! :) I feed him unlimited pellets and hay, parsley in the AM, a baby carrot or small piece of fruit in the afternoon, and a piece of romaine in the evening. He was fed only pellets at his old home and not taken care of very well. He seems happy and healthy though. I'm not sure how old he is...but I'm guessing 2-3 years or so. He is my first guinea pig. :D

Heres a picture of us together:

isn't he the cutest thing ever?!

You may want to do some reading about them then.

OMG you are going to make me cry!!  I just lost my darling Pansy a week ago yesterday, she was six years old.  If you have any questions about gpigs, CM me, I am happy to help!

LadyHibiscus -> RE: picture of my new guinea pig! (6/29/2008 7:39:38 PM)

He looks like a good size to me, too--Pansy was about three pounds, the males can get as large as five pounds.  Good luck with your baby![:D]

thanks [:)]

I have read about them...I joined a gp forum too. They're helpful there.

Guinealynx.com and the guinea pigs' daily digest rule!  And GPTV, www.oinkernet.com .  The ONLY webcam worth watching!

dollparts85 -> RE: picture of my new guinea pig! (6/29/2008 8:05:28 PM)

thanks! they sound great!

dollparts85 -> RE: picture of my new guinea pig! (6/29/2008 9:03:21 PM)

where is the daily digest thing? I'm looking and not seeing it. The forum on Guinealynx seems to be REALLY strict. haha I'm afirad to post there. I think I'll stick with caviesgalore for now. But it has tons of great stuff on the rest of the website...read lots! I think I'm gonna order that health book thing they have there. It's cheap and would be good for keeping track of vet visits and all.

dollparts85 -> RE: picture of my new guinea pig! (6/29/2008 9:04:34 PM)

oh! and that webcam site...haha OMG when the thing squeaked...my rabbits both jumped so bad and looked at me...oops!

LadyHibiscus -> RE: picture of my new guinea pig! (6/30/2008 8:12:26 AM)

Guinea pigs daily digest is www.gpdd.org and the main page has links galore!  We are very friendly.  :)  There is also the Digest Safety Net, which is folks you can email directly with questions if you have an issue.

Soon, Mr. Wiggles will be big enough to make some decent-sized bacon strips [8D] .

KatyLied -> RE: picture of my new guinea pig! (6/30/2008 8:35:51 AM)

He is HUGE!

LadyHibiscus -> RE: picture of my new guinea pig! (6/30/2008 8:41:23 AM)

He is not huge, do not be giving this piggen a complex!!!  Gpigs are not hamsters, they are like bunnies.

KatyLied -> RE: picture of my new guinea pig! (6/30/2008 8:43:53 AM)

I don't think bunnies are rodents.  But I'm not sure.

kittinSol -> RE: picture of my new guinea pig! (6/30/2008 8:47:22 AM)

Rabbits aren't rodents. They're lagomorphs. They have an extra pair of incisors, and other different skelettal features.

All this is making me hungry.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: picture of my new guinea pig! (6/30/2008 8:48:24 AM)

Well, bunnies are a side-branch called Lagomorphs.  And I was using the bunny reference for size comparison, not nomenclature.  Gpigs are special, though--their babies are born fully furred with eyes OPEN, ready to kick ass!  Hence the 90 day gestation period.

RCdc -> RE: picture of my new guinea pig! (6/30/2008 9:28:17 AM)

He looks a good size for a 2-3 year old and he is a stunner!
I have had GPs for the passed 10 years (I had a gunea piggery at one point[;)]) or so - my current two are 6.
Just be careful introducing tomatos - some can suffer lip burn from the juice being too much for them.
And keep an eye on feed - stick to the same dried feed you can rely on and don't swap it constantly or they can get bad cystisis if it doesn't agree with them.
Just keep an eye on his claws as they can turn and deform if he isn't on a hard surface - and the pads underneath can over grow too.  But that is painless removal.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: picture of my new guinea pig! (6/30/2008 9:30:35 AM)

you had a PIGGERY!!!  Can I come and move in with you? My family has declared a moratorium on pigs, since the grief of their passing is too great, and we have had our share of human deaths in the family the past year....
