Cool article

Aynne -> RE: Psylocybin is good for you? (7/1/2008 4:50:38 AM)

GT that is a great article. It reminds of the studies done on mind expansion and treating depression with other substances like ectasy ( I forget the actual proper name and too lazy to google ) but it was doing some amazing things until the gov't decided to say it ate hole in your brain and to classify it as an illegal substance. Of course I idolize Timothy Leary and Aldous Huxley so probably I am not one for an unbiased opinion.

Speaking of psylocybin, where the hell is HK[;)]

petdave -> RE: Psylocybin is good for you? (7/1/2008 5:32:11 AM)

Of course it is... it's natural! [:D]

Aynne -> RE: Psylocybin is good for you? (7/1/2008 6:39:22 AM)

So true Dave. Keep everyone whacked out on stuff pushed by giant pharma, you know, the guys that own the gov't, but let's imprison the guys that grow a little smoke under the ridiculous zero tolerance laws.  arghhhhhhhh[:-]

Well that's exactly the problem of course, it's obviously not acceptable if it isn't a corpo-fascist profit center - Monsonto can't even tolerate farmers saving their own seed for food production.

Right here, dear. Psilocybin also has potential for alleviating migraines.

MDMA doesn't cause brain lesions. The idiots who did that pseudo-study weren't even using the right chemical.

Here's a link to the premier organization for such studies, as well as info:

Mushrooms are easy to grow using the brown rice/vermiculite method.

DesFIP -> RE: Psylocybin is good for you? (7/1/2008 11:32:10 AM)

I remember being offered that in college. One major reason I declined was being told that there's also a period of intense vomiting as a reaction to eating the mushroom. Not my kink, thanks.

I've never even been nauseous. Cactus, now, that's a different story.

O for Gawd's sake.

Who funds this bullsh*t research?

Who even comes up with these bullsh*t 'theories' to test?

Many Native Americans and most Vietnam Era college students could have answered this question.

What a waste of money.

I thought they tasted pretty horrible and I got a little nauseous for a little while, but it was nothing compared to the trip. It was beautiful, hilarious, and was definitely a mind-expanding experience. I wish I had a handful of those nasty little critters right now, in fact. And I'm a little rankled that no one asked me to participate in the study.

Every food and every drug has the potential to cause some kind of reaction in your body.  Some people puke when they take Advil.  Some people can't breathe if they eat nuts.  Some people have smelly pee after asperagus.  Some people get hyper from sugar.

As for myself, I got (..get) a nauseous sensation about an hour in.  I call it "hitting a sensory wall".  Your mind is switching over to a totally different way of thinking, and along with that comes some altered perceptions.  If it's your first time, you're probably not very good at functioning under this different kind of brain function, but it's really no stranger than any other frame of mind.  Take subbie-space for example.  It can be quite exhillerating and disorientating, sometimes even unpleasant, with some after-effects that require care.  Similar idea with psilocybin trips.  Anyway, I do hit the sensory wall pretty hard, but I find it pleasureable and simply another way of interpreting my surroundings.  I have almost thrown up a couple times, but never have.  And I'll mention this even though it'll probably make you discount me as a whack-job, but I never felt like I was going to vomit, per se.  I did feel like I had something that wanted out, but it wasn't stomach contents.  Okay, enough of that silliness.  :p

As for the study, pointless.  Coulda got the same results anywhere.  As for 1/3 of the participants feeling some degree of fear.... imagine you're high and tripping, surrounded by lab equipment and people in white coats.  Of COURSE you're going to freak a bit!  Try it in you home, with some nice music and a candle, possibly with a good friend or two.

Mind expanding?  Sure.  I definitely benefitted from being on mushrooms.  It let me experience myself from a new perspective, something not possible any other way that I know of.  I saw my behaviour patterns VERY clearly and made some huge changes in the following weeks and months.  It's quite a valuable experience, I find.

I would really like to see the art that people create after taking this substance.

GreedyTop -> RE: Psylocybin is good for you? (7/1/2008 7:30:54 PM)

I never got around to doing any art work..I was usually too captivated by what was going on around me

Lots of it online. Try Alex Grey for starters:

JstAnotherSub -> RE: Psylocybin is good for you? (7/2/2008 3:40:09 PM)

the first mushrooms i ever tasted came out of cow pies.  we would boil them, then add a couple packets of pre-sweetened grape kool aid and then sit back and watch the show.  i still remember the first time i tripped, sat on the back steps and looked at my hands for a long long time.....man them was the days.....

but i can not stand mushrooms on pizza or in any kind of food to this day-lol.....go figger

Aynne -> RE: Psylocybin is good for you? (7/2/2008 5:08:30 PM)

Never done the cactus HK but mushrooms never made me nauseous either, but a hell of a tummy ache the next day from 10 hours of laughing your head off.

How did we ever make it to 30 is a medical mystery[;)]
