I just read an entire article about Katie Courik while waiting in the doctor's office. I'm trying to recall one shred of anything newsworthy or interesting from the piece as well as why the hell I read the whole thing.

Maybe I was hoping to find something dark. Like she used to shove her finger in her navel and sniff it. Or she secretly enjoyed the hell out that colonoscopy and specifically requested they use a full-sized periscope.

But basically all I came away with was the knowledge that she has great legs, went blonde to hide her gray and still reminds me of the elf who wants to grow up to be a dentist on Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer.

heh. I was wondering why I read your whole post when I saw it was about Katie Courik. At least it was probably shorter than the article.

i lack patience, particularly with professionals like MD's who cannot manage to adhere to a schedule and leave patients waiting for 45 minutes or longer. However, this is the only way to see a MD here, so i must reign in my impatience. i try to "zone out" by reading...hopefully something of interest to me..but i'll read "Town and Country" cover to cover as part of my "zoning" if nothing else is available. i am supremely disinterested in the comings and goings of the rich; the magazine is off-puting; but it's a tool to be calm and restful during the annoying period between my appointment time and my actual MD visit.

Not to hijack the OP's thread, but I am going off-off topic for a moment.

I understand how frustrating the waiting room can be, but I also know the other side of the coin. As a former health professional, it is not always possible to stick to a schedule, as you are dealing with people and can not turn them out on the streets because you have a schedule. Lots of things can happen. A patient ahead of you may have needed more time than expected to diagnose the problem, or just took up the Docs time because he needed extra education, explanations , etc. The MD may have a patient in the hospital who, when he was making Am rounds went sour or had a crisis and he stayed later than expected to take care of the situation. S/he may be a surgeon who took longer than anticipated to perform surgery that day due to complications or an emergency procedure took precidence over his waiting room. S/he may have had a patient die that day and had to talk to the family or go to a Nursing home to fill out death certs and pronounce pts death, S/he may be a gyno and as he was leaving to see his office patients someone was ready to deliver.... and the list goes on and on.

Having been in that profession I fully understand the inability to control your schedule at times. However, I too am not fond of wasting my time sittign in the MD office. Here is what I do to avoid that problem, and so far it has worked out well. About an hour before my scheduled time, I call the MD's office and ask to speak to the office manager. I ask them if Dr. So and So is running on time today, or if he is a bit behind. If I am told they are a bit behind I ask approx. how far behind and explain I will be there for my appointment, but adjust my time to his time. < ie: 1/2 hour behind, 2 hours behind >

I have been doing this for 18 years now and have never had any problems and don't sit there tapping my feet and getting itchy. LOL

Wow. There may come a time in your life when you are grateful that your doc spent more than 10-15 minutes with you and you will hope that the other patients will understand that you needed that time. You never know what patients are in crisis or what their crisis is.

A lawyer who is impatient, waiting 45 minutes, for a doctor billing time, thinking about "the ramifications of your legal problem" while reading catie courik...

I am still waiting to hear more about Katie Corik...or is it KatyLied? I forgot that quick. I keep rembering when Katie (Not Katy) wore Green Tights as Peter Pan on one Halloween, many yers ago, and flew in (By wire) onto the streets of NY. WOW...she did and does have Great legs? I can't resist a great leg, especially in Tights.

Now all we have to do, is get a picture of Katy (Lied) in Tights and compare them. I'll even sacrifice my own valualble time, to check out the two!

We might as well hijack the thread, what is there to say about Katie that is exciting?

I hate waiting for more than 15 minutes, and once had to wait an hour, and the doc wanted to waltz in and carry one not acknowledging it. Than he asked if it was me who called the desk from the exam room (because I had the evil cell phone on me, lol), I said yes! I'd been naked and waiting a long time. He appologized and explained there was an emergency with another patient, which I accepted. If he had not, I probably would have begun considering another doctor should the incident repeat itself. M

The highjack is complete...or maybe it isn''t such a hijack, because there really isn't much to say about Katie Couric, but there seems to be plenty to say about how we are forced to read about her while waiting in the Doctor's office!
I once had a doctor who was always excessively late. One day I had a 10:00 appointment for My child. At 10:05 My telephone rang at home. I answered. The receptionist at the doctor's office asked Me if I was coming in. I asked her if the doctor was ready to see Me. (I was only about 5 minutes away). She admitted he wasn't. I told her I was keeping My appointment and I would be there shortly. I arrived at 10:30 and had to wait an additional 20 minutes. I know there are also Doctors who penalize patients for signing in late. My own current doctor does that. One poor lady arrived 5 minutes after her scheduled appointment time and was told she would have to go to the back of the line. I am not sure why, as none of us were taken in on time. Not even close. We really didn't mind and were willing to let her cut into her actual place. Alas, the receptionist would not allow it! Apparently this lady needed to learn a lesson.
I have often thought about letting My medical professional know that If I have an appointment at 11AM, I do expect to be reasonably out by Noon (barring any unforseen emergencies). If I am not, I should be able to begin billing the doctor for My time. Do you think it will work? Patients unite!
I take My own reading material to the doctor's office. I do the same when I am forced to take a number at the DMV or the post office.
