One guy I knew was working double shifts and had to try to sleep in between.
He kept getting calls for some girl named Britney or whatever.  After repeatedly telling her friends that they had the WRONG NUMBER he switched tactics.

Male caller, "Hello, is Britney there?"
Bill, "Yes"
Male caller, "Can I talk with her."
Bill, "No"
Male caller, "Why not?" (getting pissed off here)
Bill, "Because MY DICK IS IN HER MOUTH!" click

End of problem

Ive done that but then I had twinges of guilt after. I had some spanish guy keep calling for Maria and he would NOT accept that there was no Maria here and that he had the wrong number. Finally I told him that I was banging her into the headboard all night and she was loving that gringo cock and that she thinks he is a pendeho (sp?)... He went beserk and started ranting in spanish and hung up on me...

Then it dawned on me, that wasnt the smartest thing I ever did. He probably was ready to kill Maria, whoever she may be! I spent the next three days nervously watching the news and reading the paper for a murder / assault of a latina woman named Maria. It was funny at the time, but it could have been tragic so I wont do it again...

You had an attack of conscience?  About a person you did not even know?

Yeah I mean thankfully nothing happened, at least nothing that made the news or that my friend at the Sherrifs Dept was able to find out... But it dawned on me I could have gotten some woman killed for no reason other than the fact that her  boyfriend / husband was an idiot whos too drunk or high to dial a phone correctly.

Telemarketer: May I speak to the man of the house?
Me: Yeah, hold on, I'll get him.
<put the phone down on the counter for 3 minutes>
<pick up the phone>
Me: Are you still holding....he'll be right here in a minute, he just has to finish skinnin' that deer in the backyard...
<repeat with additional stupid comments followed by 3 minutes on the counter until the telemarketer hangs up>

The National Do Not Call Registry has cut my telemarketing calls to about one per week...mostly from charities and political organizations.

Oh... oh, thank you for that! Off to search for their website. Even with an answering machine we're plagued; perhaps this is the solution.

Sarcastic? Not at all. I just registered with them actually. I didn't even know it existed, so I'm .genuinely grateful you mentioned it. Thanks again :-) .

Remember the loopholes on the National Do Not Call Registry....
charities and political organizations can still call.

A simple statement, "Please place me on your Do Not Call List" and wait for the confirmation is normally enough for charities and political calls.  If he/she chooses to continue "selling", ask for the supervisor and wait for the person to hang up....it is illegal for them to continue a selling pitch once you have instructed them to place you on the Do Not Call List. :-D

If you DO get a supervisor, mention that the employee continued selling after you requested to be placed on the DNC list.  That simple act can cost them a fine per instance (hence the need to report them).

And it does take about 30 days for the full effects of the  National DNC to work...heads up, your pain is almost over.

Happy Hunting!

Some would regret that but in this case, I can't wait for that particular pain to go away. Thanks!

Good one Hunk.

Anyway, I did it the other day and I don't know if it is a slump for telemarketers or what, but every call I have recieved since then was someone I know. It seemed to work immediately, but time will tell. Using it was extremely simple, I thought there would be all kind of rigamaroll, but you just get one email where you click a link and print the confirmation page.

Now I am fucked, that because I have to admit that there is one thing the government did that I like. But really that's not so big a thing, about three things in 47 years is not too bad, err good, err,,,forget it.

I am a telemarketer
you need to tell them to put you on the DNC list when they call if you just hang up they will just call back and there is no law agains that when they call before you hang up tell them to put you one the DNC   Do Not Call List
it can take up to 30 days for the DNC to get your name on it but it does work then if the same place calls you again you can leaggaly sew them and it will hold up in court

also just a note to some
this is a job just like you have a job somone can have a job in retail and your job is to sell you get a comission if you sell or you just do a good job and dont get fired becouse you sell
well it is the same thing if somone gets to many hang ups or tomany no dont wants if say they are trying to give somthing away for free like a paper or if they are just calling to check and see if you got your phone book yet
they can get fired from there job if they dont have a good percentage of yesses or completes

That is a shame Pup. There used to be alot more good jobs in this country, even if you didn't work in a factory, those places had offices, sales departments, purchasing departments , payroll departments.

I figure telemarketers as displaced office workers, even if they are too young to have been displaced, I guess we could then say that the jobs are displaced.

The best thing about the DNC list is that I no longer have to give people a hard time. I don't even know them and they are at least working instead of collecting a welfare check. If you think I enjoyed using my tactics on them you are mistaken. Those tactics are usually reserved for people I know who have a brain fart, do something really stupid. Things like that.

I was getting 6-8 calls a day. Lower your credit card debt, paint your house, and your car warranty is about to expire. With my posse I have a couple of good mechanics, and connections to get parts you wouldn't believe. I have very rarely bought a car that ran right, but I made it run right, and on the cheap. I have never had a warranty on a car.

And the city will give me paint for my house. First of all I do not take anything from the government, and they want to give you a voucher for Sherwin Williams. That paint is junk, there are three grades of paint. At the bottom there is the junk at Kmart. Then there is the second tier, which includes Sherwin Williams, and the general twenty buck a gallon stuff like Dutch Boy, Behr etc. Then you have the good paint. Benjamin Moore, Pratt & Lambert, and they cost a bit over twice what the second tier paints cost. That's what I use. I do that because I do not want to paint again. I got Benny Moore on the interior of the house and let me tell you, I can scrub it with steel wool if need be and it doesn't come off. Meantime a strong cleaning solution and a rag will take the cheap stuff off.

In other words, nothing any good is free. Even debt consolidation. Every person involved with that company gets a check, it can't be free. If you are writing loans, just come out and say it. And I don't care what anyone says, this house is paid off and I don't care if you reduce my interest to zero, I am not securing unsecured debt.

And there is another factor that takes my aggravation quotient through the roof. I know what I need and want. Advertise to me, you will anyway. If I want or need what you have I will call you. If not, I will leave you alone, so leave me alone !

So work on your spelling Pup, and get yourself a better job. As much as I might hate to say it right now, I advocate the total demise of the telemarketing industry, and I am not alone. Eventually almost everyone will be on the DNC list, then what do you do ?

Even in a service based economy, there are companies, and those companies have sales departments, purchasing departments, payroll departments and so forth.

Telemarketing used to be called "cold calls" but they were not at randon. I work in the electronics field and one supplier did do cold calls, but we were established customers and they had same day delivery. When they called that meant it was like a notice that if we need some parts or tools today, say so now or you don't get it until tomorrow. That didn't bother us at all.

There is a big difference.
