i 'm reading an article right now that's talking about the differences between men's and women's feelings about pornography, mainly what makes porn good or bad to them. one of the women commented that if she wanted a storyline she'd read erotica.

i guess i've never thought about it that way. i like both. if anything i like reading it so i can move through it as fast as i want to.

any thoughts?

I don't know, watching a cock go in and out of a pussy is like watching a person chew. Same damn motion repeated over and over.

I need to feel it. As though I was one of the characters which doesn't happen to me through a visual sense. Probably why I'm not a movie goer.

I definitely prefer erotica. My imagination works better for me than watching porn.

I like erotica in text and on film.
I like porn better on film than text.

Ummmmm, I like both? Depending on my mood?

Erotic = The Red Shoe Diaries original movie.

Porn = errrrr, ya. No help needed there probably.

yeah that's one of the downsides of using basic internet surveying tools (dont' get me started i'm having this fight trying to let them do my master's survey online lol).

i used to be a fan of erotica, and feel all superior for it, but nowadays i find that i just don't have the time... i've had to switch to porn for efficiency's sake. +/-

there's something that just seems so clinical about all the close-ups in porn.  "Ve are vatching ze vagina veddy closely now!"  it's not something that appeals to me, generally, but if he's got it on and I'm watching, chances are it's going to cause a little...ahem...action.

edited cuz I'm lame...

If we get down to the nitty gritty, erotica IS porn.

That's the definition of pornography.

I love them both. Reading something well done, and hot, or watching a clip from the sex and submission site http://ads.sexandsubmission.com/imagedb/5441/v/h/320/5441_4.wmv

Veddy hot, and graphic.

I like to read (and write) erotica...I don't think I've ever actually *watched* porn (too many young siblings hang around, for one thing). I'm not sure I'd like it, either; yes, visuals do resound strongly, but well-picked words can get me hotter than the nicest image.

Besides, dial-up is absolute crap for streaming/downloading anything! :D

i think the problem (issue? not quite sure what word to use) is that i've been working with porn/erotica academic literature for so long that yes, there is a difference at least in terms of defining it to study it. hence where i came from in writing the poll.

YMMV, of course, but

erotica: tends to be more storyline and detail driven. tends to have a set story line that may or may not drive the sexual activity. tends to be lumped in as a form of literature and viewed with a slightly higher regards than pornography. may or may not be more suggestive than pornography

pornography: sex for sex's sake. not nearly as artistic, the whole point is sexual gratification. essentially erotica's hick cousin.

yeah it's a fine gray line but they're different enough to be viewed as different catagories. suite 101, while definitely not being academic (which is where most of my understanding comes from being the academikinkster that i am) has a pretty good overview.
