I feel like I have a responsibility to attend to the health of my servants after completing a session. I'll qualify this by saying that a session with me may include fire, scalpels, needles, etc... so just letting my servant hang doesn't work for me. I do feel an obligation to (1) make sure my servant is properly attended to physically and (2) make sure that xhe isn't left in a position where, while under the influence of adrenalin and endorphins, xhe might be harmed... so especially when the servant isn't going to be staying on-site, I definitely feel that it is my responsibility to "bring hir down". Usually, after a session, the way that I 're-ground' my servant is similar to the way that I re-ground myself after an intense spiritual encounter, sweatlodge, or after deep meditation... I provide something to eat, and something to drink. I expect the servant to sit quietly, eat something, drink something, I either attend the wounds caused by play myself, or have another servant attend to it if one is available, I cover large areas of open wounds with saran wrap and surgical tape or sterile dressings, and make sure that the servant puts on clean clothing over the area (helps reduce some of the risk of infection). I also make sure the servant is clear about post-play care instructions for hirself and any wounds -- sometimes, in the heat of the moment, servants will do things that are careless, just because their minds are still preoccupied with the scene... a reminder/quiz before xhe leaves is a good way to make sure that at least part of hir mind is on post-play healing. I watch for signs of 'post-play reaction'... shaking, clamminess, flushing or blanching, slurred speech, etc., and make sure that I have blankets and pedialyte nearby, just in case. I also hold the car keys when the servant arrives if xhe isn't staying over -- if xhe has a reaction, but absolutely has to go home, I'll call (and pay for) a cab or drive hir myself, but xhe isn't going to drive home in anything less than a fully aware state. If the play broke skin (which isn't going to be uncommon with my play), I observe the servant over the following 48 hrs, and wont' break skin in the same area, so that I can watch for signs of infection. If there are signs of infection, they are treated promptly, and I keep an eye on things to make sure that a systemic infection doesn't develop (even local infections are very rare if one is careful).
