The ability to look in the mirror and truly be honest with oneself is the first step to real strength. The final and most difficult step is the ability to see the raw ugly truth you see and reshape it through sheer force of will into something greater. Changing and shaping someone else is easy, that is what co-dependence is all about, changing yourself is a vastly more difficult challenge, but one, if fairly met, can yield amazing things. I have an achilles heel that renders me in some ways more boy than man, I have tried and failed my entire life to tackle it, but while I could see the raw ugly truth, I did not have the force of will to rip it asunder. I lost something priceless because of it, but that loss was exactly the catharsis I needed. I am in the process of tearing that achilles heel from my life and I am in fact well on my way and when I get to the other side, I will finally BE the man I was born to be. Looking inward and allowing yourself to see truthfully is the only real path to strength.
