O.o Why do peeps object to loud noises on the 4th.

Uhm....'cause I like to have a decent night's sleep and not have to be awakened several times during the wee hours because people are setting them off after the legally allowed hours?

Why is 3 p.m. an odd time?  Did you mean 3 a.m.?
They shoot guns off here instead of fireworks.

I really dont mind the fireworks so much, it is the sirens that annoy me, and the fools that have no idea why the grass fire started which resulted in the loss of their car..... or partial damage to their home.

I mean, why should anyone worry when it is so dry there is a burn ban in effect?  It is not like fireworks involve fire, right?  Or that dry grass burns?

Is there really a connection between fireworks and fires when you set the things off in the middle of a field of dry grass?

Don't look to me for any sympathy.  I'm the kinda guy that used to love getting halfway lit, and hanging out with friends throwing firecrackers at each others feet and legs, then later moving on to setting off illegal mexican roman candles (the kind that *actually* shoot a good distance)at each other, then when it's late enough, burying and setting off M80's, 1/4 sticks, etc.

Haven't done it for a long time, and probably won't again, but I always hoist one in silent tribute to the young, the stupid, and the loud.  Here's to you, my brothers... may your eye-patch look roguishly sexy!

- don't make me give you the fireworks lecture Sir ... I made two kids cry before Guy Fawkes Night last year ... and they were tough little mo fo's as well

we must live in the same neighborhood.

fireworks have been going off since Memorial Day and yesterday the minors were setting them off at 10a! the firecracker/works season won't end until Labor Day but will be around for Halloween and Christmas break.

That sounds like here, too.  They really start tuning up a week before and will continue at least a week after.  There's random stuff all summer long.

My cousin usually sets off quite a show at his place (rural Ohio) and my parents see it from several hundred yards away.  A few years ago, one of the rockets fell over as it was fired and all hell broke loose.  We could hear the screams all the way across the field and that thing skittered everywhere.  It almost landed in the stash of unfired goodies.

What was cool about this was a) he had no permit, and b) he's the fire chief for the township!

You have hours when it is and isn't legal? Here in NY, only duly licensed types are supposed to set them off. Of course we're an hour from PA where anybody can buy them.

As far as the doggie issues, do you have a walk in closet with a light? Put a radio on in there, put the dog in.
My late golden would hear thunder or fireworks and race me to the little room downstairs without a window. I'd turn on music and sit with her for ten, afterwards I could go about my business until it was all over.

OMG...that is too funny! What an idiot.

DesFIP: Yup...here for 4th of July, a $25 permit is required for every 5000 firecrackers and they are only allowed to be set off from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. on July 4th. Of course, today some moron was setting them off and it is now July 5th not July 4th.

Actually, I was surprised that it wasn't as noisy yesterday as I had expected. New Year's was far worse and seemed to last for the whole week. Either fewer people are indulging, or maybe some here are actually becoming more aware of the dangers when conditions are as dry as they are. No matter what the reason, I'm just glad it wasn't a big festival of noise like it usually is.

how about the guy who was setting off illegal fireworks out of his apartment and into foot traffic in the middle of buffalo and then dragged the half lit candle back into his apartment when people started yelling at him?

no joke...

Ok, so you posted this on the 4th of July.  Where exactly is the rule that is must be within specific hours on that day of the year?

I don't object to loud noises on 4th of July, ( ok so the ones that sound as loud as a cannon an shake my window's I object to*but I DO object to the  neighbor thinking at 10:30 at night he needs to play his guitar* poorly at that* and turn his amp up so loud the entire street can hear. And my mom, who's usualy trying to sleep or is asleep by 10:30 an rudely awoken minds too.

Now perhaps if he played better I wouldn't mind. But his playing sucked.
