barelynangel -> Is there something going on in CM technically (7/5/2008 8:15:28 AM)

In the last couple days CM has been slower an slower for me and now i keep getting this Internet Exporer cannot open internet site www.collarme.com/default etc.  Operation aborted and then it goes to the below and then i hit the go back to pevious page and it brings up the page i was trying to go to and all is fine for a few clicks and then it does it again.  Its not happening on any other site so far so i am trying to figure out if there is something going on in the background of CM in these last couple days.  Thanks... angel

It's working fine for me...clear your cache for starters.

WinsomeDefiance -> RE: Is there something going on in CM technically (7/5/2008 8:19:27 AM)

I've had no problem with the forums, but I do get that message every now and then when trying to access the personal pages. I just wait a few minutes and then go back and the page pops up.  I assumed it was bandwidth issues or server maintenance.

Thanks for all the serious answers, it just got really bad this morning so i wondered if CM was having server issues or maintenance.  Will check the caches thanks.

wandersalone -> RE: Is there something going on in CM technically (7/5/2008 8:32:03 AM)

I have been having the same problem on and off for about a week only with CM as well.  I use firefox and figured it was probably the site having a problem.

faerytattoodgirl -> RE: Is there something going on in CM technically (7/5/2008 8:35:38 AM)

firefox had this problem??? wow...ive not had any problem ever with that browser...

RuheMaus -> RE: Is there something going on in CM technically (7/5/2008 8:36:47 AM)

'Nother firefox user who has been having site slowdown/loading issues, as well...

kc692 -> RE: Is there something going on in CM technically (7/5/2008 8:39:07 AM)

Actually, firefox users have more problems with this site than IE users........and the 3 users seem to be having the most of the Firefox users.

barelynangel -> RE: Is there something going on in CM technically (7/5/2008 8:42:30 AM)

I don't think its a browser issue as i haven't had this issue before in all the years i have been on here, and i am sure it would have popped up as well as i am not having the issue with any other site.  It seems that it may be a CM issue - i am not trying to have a browser war started lol, i will contact support and ask if they are doing something or if its something i need to look into fixing on my own.

Thanks for the thoughts.

Clearing the cache is overrated. Don't bother. It is a throwback from when people had 300 MB harddrives.

When you have problems with a site, go to another site to see how it loads. Sometimes there are 10,000 people here, and the problem simply is not on your end.

Remember on a computer, except for the HD there is no "where" only "when". I mean if 200 people hit this site right before you, you will have to wait.

BTW, you know you can't clear the cache anyway, and you can prove it right now. Say you got it set to 300MB, well take it down to zero. Reboot. Then take it back up to 300MB, all the files are back. Been there done that. They are never gone.

Bear that in mind.

Raechard -> RE: Is there something going on in CM technically (7/5/2008 8:52:55 AM)

In these days of high-speed internet having a cache is probably pointless anyway and you could just as easily set it to zero and notice no real difference anyway I'm guessing. Then again they still have it so who knows.

barelynangel -> RE: Is there something going on in CM technically (7/5/2008 8:53:02 AM)

Hi T, i have been on the computer for many years AND this site for many years, my question here wasn't some panic stricken newbie who is unaware of how sites sometimes work with the influx of people coming to it.  This question incorporates ALL of my experience on CM over the years and well, what was happening was enough out of the ordinary for me to ask this question.  While i appreciate the time of your reply, however, its a little condescending as well as misplaced presumption of ignorance of the basic knowledge of people coming to a site.

Thanks anyway, feel free to continue the discussion -- i have my answers and appreciate all those who participated with their recent experience for me to decipher.

There are some changes being made to speed up the site yet again, so it should not affect you too much longer.

barelynangel -> RE: Is there something going on in CM technically (7/5/2008 9:21:07 AM)

Thanks KC  I appreciate it the info.  They work hard on this site so its good to know they are continuously trying to make it better, it was so out of the ordinary what was happening, i thought to see if others knew if that's what it was, before bugging support or trying to figure out if its something with my puter.

Missokyst -> RE: Is there something going on in CM technically (7/5/2008 9:29:36 AM)

Well that is just silly.  Microsoft is an extreme believer in overkill.  There are temp files all over your system if you use a PC.
As for the cache, I can tell you I have cleaned peoples computers out and found they have 10G of crap hidden in their IE alone.  And that doesn't even count the stuff in Mozilla, AOL or the normal temps.  One guys system was so full of crap it held 30G of temps.
OP
Go and find a free copy of CCLEANER from filehippo.
Clean out your temps.
I use IE and have never had issues with speed on my very old system.  You might also want to check out spyware issues that might slow you down.  Try Malwarebytes to remove pesky bugs.
Good luck,
Kyst
