DomAviator -> RE: Talking to the Cops NEVER a good idea (7/6/2008 12:11:23 PM)

I think the videos are accurate but not necessarily for the average person... I mean to be practical, your "rights" aside if you try to follow that here in Texas the cops will kick the fucking piss out of you. You do not want to get on the shitlist of a southern cop. Northern cops either I suppose - remember that Hatian guy who got taken into the precinct bathroom for some plunger fun... I dont think most people need to have such a sense of paranoia about cops. If you are somebody that they want to get for something, they will find a way to get you. The key is to make them not want to get you. I belong to something called "The 100 Club". It costs $100 a year to join, and you get a sticker to put in the back window of your vehicles. It supposedly does nothing for you except show your support of the police, but in practical application well thats another story. The cops know where their bread is buttered and they know that their pretty little air conditioned mobile command post was, per the foot high letters on the side, "Donated by the 100 Club" and their bulletproof vests came from the 100 Club and their kids college scholarship fund is from the 100 club etc... I dont think your average citizen has much to fear about being pulled in for questioning on some murder investigation. I will say this though, if there was a murder in my neighborhood and the cops came to my door for some routine canvassing and I said "I have nothing to say I do not speak to police" and started invoking my 5th ammedment rights I would expect to move right the fuck up to the top of the "persons of interest list" and to get myself a prominent spot on the "this motherfucker thinks hes a smart ass list" and I would expect my life to go downhill from there. The cops aren't the ogres some people think... If you get in with them youre in a damn good place to be... As I said in another thread, when my gf wanted to try pot instead of taking the risk of going out on the street and trying to score and mixing with the scumbag criminal element and possibly getting busted or robbed - I got it from a cop. When Britt got picked up for PI (public intoxication) while 20 years old, the local cops dropped her off at my house and told me to keep her out of trouble. There have been cops at a BBQ / Crab boil who saw her drinking in my backyard and they didn't give a shit. Hell, even the ammo in the 9mm I carry isn't sold to the public so gee I wonder where I got it [:D] Conversely, though if you get on their bad side you are fucked and especially around here. They will literally beat you to death for public intoxication within 1/2 hour of your being released from jail in a dry part of town, after closing time, with 11 cents in your pocket. (That actually happened - the mans name was Pedro Gonzales and the officers who did it were just acquitted on "criminally negligent homicide" charges despite a witness who called in the Rodney King style beating and the fact that the man had 8 broken ribs and drowned in his own blood and the medical examiner ruled he had no alcohol.) Edited to add: Link removed as I cant get it to work. If you care google "Pedro Gonzales Pasadena Police" or cmail me and Ill send it to you. Hmmm BrittneyLee gets driven to my house and dropped off with no charges, Pedro gets used as a pinata and dies in a holding cell for the same offense. You tell me - do you really want to piss them off??? Pedro's "rights" didnt keep him alive did they, and the cops walked. So it is now, so it always has been, and so it always shall be. Id rather be their buddy...
