I was nine and I didn't even know the word orgasm. I knew I liked rubbing myself, and I would lock myself in my brother's room (he was off hiking in Wyoming all summer and MY room was a converted parlor with no locks on the doors). I would never have been punished for masturbating. I instinctively felt it was private - as in - I didn't want my parents hanging around ruining it for me. Yet, I also felt like I really wanted someone else with me. From then on I masturbated frequently, and still do - having times when I have had to masturbate several times a day. It took me a few years before I actually slept with anyone, and I think I am pretty average as far as women go in being able to orgasm with partners - have had my ups and downs. Frenchy is the first partner I can masturbate in front of - it is a very self-centered act and I dislike how masturbating "for someone" allows them to make it into their own event, their own pleasure.
And Puppen - if you need it - you have permission. Orgasms are free and good for you. If they could be measured, we should each get at least 64 ounces a day, like water. I am sorry for anyone who has ever had to go thirsty.
