sooo, i was going to make a post in general about overcoming things you thought you'd never do, but then i realized that i am now faced with the fun experience of SHOPPING and not knowing what the hell to buy...so i thought i'd post for advice instead :)

electrical play and knife play were the two things that squicked the bejeezus out of me. knife play i got over a long time ago. electrical play is something we hadn't even spoken about - actually, i found out on the phone earlier that apparently a long time ago i made it clear that it squicked me and that's WHY we haven't spoken about it, but i don't remember that. anyway, i had a bad experience as a kid being tested for nerve damage (where they hook you up to the fun shock machine and then poke needles everywhere, including your ass, complete with being told that i screamed too much) and since then electrical anything has freaked me out. i have a lot of chronic pain issues, especially with my back, though, and i've been slowly reintroduced through having a tens unit on my back briefly a few times at a chiropractor a year or two ago and now in physical therapy. i've decided that i might actually like this tens-unit-on-my-back stuff, so i brought it up to master again. He is more intrigued with the electrosex toys, of course.

i've taken it upon myself to try and figure out where to start with the shopping. i'd really like something that can function like a regular tens unit such as in physical therapy (so that i can have the pain management benefits at home) but also something that we can use equally as often for play; however, browsing through the electrosex section at extreme restraints is enough to make my head spin, not to mention trying to figure out all the differences between the types of medical tens units available through non-kinky sellers, and which would be best for what. anyone with words of wisdom, your input would be greatly appreciated.

respectfully,
a'ishah.

I enjoy electrical play., and have had a few different tens units. a large majority of the ones yu can buy for kink play like eros tek and rimba are similar to those used in medical. comapnies like eros tek have added features. Like the 301/302 series. small portable and very functional. They have pleasure settings which can be used for things like back pain , and 3 settings for "training".
I am a fan of the eros tek 301 and 302. due to the size, the feature and the key chain remote control ...

The one thing is, the basic units similar to the rimba , are alsost identical to the medical ones. but in some cases you can get a medial one similar to the rimba cheaper if you have a prescription  from the doctor and have medical insurance in the usa. i have seen simple medical ones, for like 50 or 60 bucks.

I'm not sure I have too much to add in the way of specific devices. Daddy has an ErosTek (not sure which one) and we've had quite a bit of fun playing with it.

I did want to add however, that I've been through 3 of those damned nerve studies and I'm convinced every single one of the neurologists I went to for them was a serious sadist. They are easily the WORST pain I've EVER experienced (and I've given birth twice). In spite of that, I do quite enjoy electrical play and even at it's worst, it's nothing like those horrible nerve studies!

Enjoy!

slight highjack, but believe it or not. it was that stupid test and that nasty man poking and shocking the hell out of me for 3 plus hours. that convinced my warped self i would most likely enjoy the needles and electric play.

i hope you have fun shopping!!

IMHO, a TENS unit is very unsatisfying ... too wimpy & not enough variables.  The Erostek & similar boxes have potential but they err on the side of wimpiness as well (they don't want their asses sued).

I find a simple EMS (medical sinusoidal generator used by folks doing physical therapy) works best.  I'd recommend multiple frequencies, but 100 hz will be where you will wind up.  Also, you want a choice of ramp times, but you'll pick the shortest.  Also need to have a variable ON Time ... and OFF Time ... want at least as low as 1 sec off (or less) ... and at least 60 sec ON time ... or more.  You should be able to get a pocket-sized one for <$100.  The big ones will cost several hundred dollars.

I'd also seriously consider a Russian Stim unit (which might be combined w/ a more mundane EMS unit) ... basically a amped up EMS unit with other waveforms.  But they are a bit pricey.  You'd do well to get one for <$500 ... BUT it'll certainly bump up your endorphins!

DO NOT get the chinese stim unit (6 channels or such) from Xtreme Restraints ... poor quality control ... bad rheostats.

Need to know anything more?  Write my profile, I usually only check the Message boards for jokes.

a'ishah, I can't really speak with any authority on the PT aspects you're looking for, but would definitely recommend trying a less-expensive unit to begin.  We use the rimba, thinking it would be toy-like and easy for starters and have found that it more than meets our needs.  You can buy whatever attachments might appeal to you later, which is something of a plus over other inexpensive units out there.

We've never invested in any of the optional things, so I can't speak to that.  However, the rimba comes with the little pads just as you'd find at the chiro's office.  While I'm certain it's not even in the same ballpark in terms of 'power', you could easily try it on your back (CAREFUL! Read about this, and proceed with great caution regarding where it's safe to place the pads.)

In all, it was - for us - a good unit to start exploring this.  I'm really glad we didn't seriously invest in something intense to start off.  IIRC, we got it right around the $100 mark.

The choice of a power unit depends upon what you intend to do with it and your power requirements. For medical use, I would lean toward a unit that can do both TENS and EMS. The first one is supposed to reduce pain while the second is designed to contract the muscles. For erotic use, the Eros-Tek has some interesting models.

A TENS which allows for more adjustment than just power level should work well for your needs. One which also offers EMS capabilities will give you more medical waveform options. How the EMS unit would work for e-Stim is something that I am curious to find out some day. The muscle toning sounds like an option that I could use. These units only lack the more erotic modes which may not be necessary for you. If the TENS unit does not offer the erotic experience that you want, at least you have a good TENS to help with your medical needs.

I bought the Eros 302 for the wireless remote and additional modes not conducive to medical therapy. It has 3 training modes and 2 audio modes in addition to more standard modes. The training modes work just like a dog shock collar. Push one of 3 buttons to get the subs attention. One mode is low, medium, and high shock. Another training mode is shock A, B, and C for remotely requesting one of 3 responses. The audio modes provide either low or high mic sensitivity and shock the victim in accordance with the sound level. With the stereo playing, I can be shocked to the beat of "Thunderstruck". Always fun. This unit works fairly well for self stim. My only complaint is that the power unit shuts off after 45 minutes without a remote button being pushed. This means that I must remember to hit a training button often enough for it to not auto-shut off while using the training modes. The Eros 312 does not shut off by itself.

The medical ones often times have an auto-shutdown feature. I have seen a few that could be told not to, but those are exceptions. The power output likely will be good enough for you. The size of the electrodes and your pain tolerance determine the usable power level. I have no experience with any power unit other than the Eros 302, but can speak of methods to vary the acceptable power level that I can use. Larger electrodes spaced further apart lessen the felt power and allow me to crank it up. With large ones placed upon each rear cheek, I can max the power setting. Place the electrodes the same distance apart directly over the kidneys results in significant pain at only 25% of max power. Small electrodes on sensitive mail organs requires equal caution.

The major concern that I have with mixing regular TENS units with e-Stim is the connection of accessories. The Eros model uses regular 1/8 inch headphone jacks to connect the wires to the power unit while some other brands use another size. The newer Tens units have a different power connector. An adapter must be purchased to mix different power units with different accessories. As long as you purchase the correct adapter, any power unit may be used with any e-Stim or TENS electrodes.

Since I discovered the auto-shut down of my Eros-302, I have desired a more robust power unit. The Eros-312 has been the one on my mind ever since. It has more adjustments, more power, and will not shut off if left alone. The remote training modes are missing, but the sound mode could be used for sub quiet time for more than 45 minutes at a time. My current unit works well enough for most times, but lacks the adjustments needed to be used as a TENS unit. This is another option that interests me. I am torn between purchasing a TENS/EMS unit or the Eros-312

EDIT: Sorry for replying to such an old thread. I noticed after posting the age of the last post. Unfortunately, I could not find a delete button.
