ORIGINAL: kittinSol Still, one's hardly 'ageing' at the age of 41, swimmer or not. 'Ageing'... seriously [8D] . You're absolutely aging as an athlete at 41. How many professional or non-pro athletes are out there at that age? I don't know the exact answer, as to baseball, football, soccer, or basketball players, but it's a healthy bet to say not many at the top of their game. To keep a body in such perfect condition as she has at her age, with having a child 3 years ago, is amazing. She must be an incredibly precise, disciplined person to be able to compete with those less than half her age. Her age and maturity probably works for her in that respect. The 50 free sprint is one of the toughest swims in the sport. It's an all-out, unbelievable drain on the swimmer's system. She dropped out of the 100 free in the Olympics to be able to do her absolute best in the 50 free, which is where she has a chance to medal. quote:
Something about swimming athletes having less problems later on in life than other sports. Yes - much lower impact than other sports, hence less impact injuries and jarring of the joints in later years, though shoulder injuries can occur from overtraining.
