Hi, I dont' know if anyone on here has seen in in the past, but a year ago or so I saw a collar made by a silversmith in Austrailia that was made with a hidden hinge. It came with a key in the form of a ring that the master would wear. The collar would only open with the ring. Has anyone seen this or heard of it? I'm looking to find it again if anyone can point me towards the site. Thanks!

i thought that was pretty neat too... i wonder if you can 'magnetically encode' something, or if that's marketing mumbo-jumbo, and a normal fridge magnet will unlock you...

I remember years ago they were selling padlocks that had magnetic keys, there seemed to be some kind of encoding because the 2 I owned would not accept the keys of the other.

interesting... i thought about it after posting, and i think i understand how it would work... the 'pins' of the lock would be magnets, and the key would have a few magnets arranged in certain polarities, and when coming close to the lock mechanism, some pins would be pushed away while others would be pulled, etc... sounds delightfully elegant...

Master and i love the look and concept of that collar so much so that we are considering me buying a cheaper wedding dress so that we can afford that collar. (We are having our formal collaring ceremony the day after we get married vanila style)

For that price, I could probably take a class and learn how to build them. I bet it would just take two magnets to make the lock, and two for the key.
