So Sunday, I go to the beach with Lucivar, his sister, his mom, his mom's man... we go play in the water and such... the boys run to the store and grab a couple drinks, come back and decide ...  to feed the seagulls... /shakes her head[sm=doh.gif]

It starts out, Lucivar's sister has one of the doritos stolen out of her hand by a seagull... the bird just hangs out near us after that... His mom and sister are relatively quickly back in the water, i'm trying to just relax and burn in the sun (and yes, i'm pale, i burn like hell) ... so the guys start holding cheetos and doritos over each others' heads (apparently seagulls like orange) and this small collection of birds starting with just that single one, is now about 10... and they're starting to surround us like something out of a cheesy horror flick. [sm=danger.gif]

His mom's guy goes back in the water with the other girls, and now Lucivar decides to hold the damn things over MY head, (have i mentioned i grew up on the water back in jersey and have a GREAT deepseated hatred for the seagulls???) and now these ten birds have grown to over twenty and we are COMPLETELY surrounded... [sm=hardlimit.gif]

So now, i'm sunburnt, surrounded by these damn birds, literally... they've formed a circle around the sheets that were laid out... and Lucivar's sitting there holding these chips and cheetos basically on top of my head.... and then decides... he's gonna go in the water... [sm=sigh.gif]

Leaving me alone, in the middle of a ring of hungry seagulls... telling me that they're ALL for me... they're my new friends...

Seagulls, well, let's be fair here, seagulls that are found near urban beaches are little more than flying rats. You don't hand feed rats , do ya ?

well, there are some rats that i would hand feed...especially the ratzilla's.

as for the undivided attention of 20 seagulls, honestly i wasn't really worried about it until i was lighting my cigarette and thought, "oh hell if they steal my cigs, i'm gonna be pissed"

Not just urban beaches.

Can anyone answer this for me?

I live in the middle of Michigan. Why oh why, why oh WHY are there seagulls in the parking lots of our local stores?
No beach in sight but there up in the sky it's a bird, no a plane!
No No!
It is psychooooo seagull!!

I am terrified of birds and when it comes to seagulls in a parking lot diving bombing me it is just hell.

Are they lost?

i hate seagulls...we have tons of them here in salt lake.  whoever said they are rats with wings is right.  i dind't start actually hating them until i was at a park with my then 2 year old son.  we were feeding the ducks and geese at the pond and soon there were seagulls all over the place.  but they didn't steal the bread we were feeding the ducks...they picked up the baby ducks and ate them.  stupid fuckers...i know it's nature and all that good stuff but i still hate them and their opportunistic ways.

Camille...actually, if seagulls are inland, it usually means there is a storm over the Lake.....and they will fly a pretty good distance to put space between themselves and a storm.  But if they discover a decent, permanent food source, then they may not leave.....we lived over 40 miles south of Lake Michigan, and we had seagulls year around.  Like every other wild animal, their natural habitat is being overtaken by humans.

Christine...how awful!  I never had that problem with seagulls and ducks......that must have been awful for your little one to witness!
