I felt exactly that way just last night.  : )  I was feeling incredibly sorry for myself and wanted some pity and knew that any way that I wrote about my problem I would come out sounding like a whining brat - because that's exactly what I felt like last night.

Sometimes this forum is the only place we have to turn where someone will understand us.  In most cases if you state a question without whining you will get good answers.

I agree.

Hi playfulotter,

I'm a big chicken who doesn't want to be blasted.  It is true, and there have been times I've posted anyway and cringed, waiting to be verbally tarred and feathered off the boards.  However, being disagreed with, is definitely ok with me.  I've had people respond and not agree with my perspective.  I've even had to concede a point or two when a counter-perspective made more sense to me than my own original stance.

As others have said, how the question is worded, how receptive and polite you are in response to contrary opinions, and whether or not you are seeking answers or simply looking for validation - often dictates what sort of response you will get.

As I stated earlier.  I readily confess to being a big attention whore and chicken.  There are many intelligent, intuitive and straightforward people on these boards who do not mince words.  They can be quite intiidating.  While there are times I literally do cringe waiting for the backlash - it hasn't yet come and I haven't yet been verbally tarred and feathered off the site - if that gives you any comfort at all!

PS - Love the smiley faced boxer drawers! Very endearing.  The only other thing that might get you a better response regardless of what you post, might be if you had Wyldhearts tits for your avatar

Did someone call my name?

Otter- As DV said, you have to sort the wheat from the chaff when people respond to your posts, as there are a lot of differing opinions here. You will get a better response if your OP is clear, well thought out, and lacks whining. Honest, straightforward questions do tend to get a better response than hard-to-read, muddled ones.
Good luck!

i find that, as a newcomer to the forums, i can post what i hope is an interesting and pertinent response in a thread and it just gets ignored because i'm not part of "the gang" that has been posting on here for far longer than i have.   i don't get upset at that because i suppose everyone must pay their dues and earn respect here, but it does inhibit me from posting quite a deal.

An excellent thread; thank you.

Quick reply to the OP: Yes, in the past. Now I don't care. Let 'em blast away. Some of it is kind of funny.

If it's important to you that you don't get flamed, then identify posters who you think could be helpful and send them mail asking for their thoughts. I don't find that people are likely to flame someone who says "I'm writing to you because I think your posts are smart and insightful and I hope you have time to offer a suggestion:.

If it's just posting in general. People who don't blow up and attack others usually don't get attacked. Of course if you go around announcing like one poster that all women here are lesbian bitches then you can guarantee not getting a break when it comes to responses on a thread.

Or how about us that got on here and posted a tyraid for one of our first five posts? Or SOME HUGE STATEMENT OF WHAT I BELIEVE? Been there, done that (although you won't find it if you search. hehehe...old name that doesn't return search results anymore).

Best ways to not get flamed:
1) Ask your question in an intelligent way.
2) Ask (hopefully) and intelligent question.
3) Use the search function first to see if it's been asked before.
4) Don't get mad when people (especially LA, 'cause, madd skillz, she has them) post links to other threads for you to read.
5) Don't get mad when people actually give you the opinions you asked for...and they don't agree with what you were hoping to get.

If we all play nice, it'll be a nice playground.

Nope. I post whatever I feel like, either as a response or as a new thread and don't really give a rat's ass if someone takes offence and "blasts" me for it. What of it, they are just words on a screen written by somebody I don't know, they can't hurt me, nor can they overly upset me. Sometimes I get ticked off and will defend myself, but usually I don't even bother, unless the "blaster" is being an idiot.
