how has it been for you?   As in  - have you noticed more energy and stamina, and have you lost weight without changing your eating habits? Have you stayed with it?   i just joined and am looking for good and bad stories.

I've done it myself and like the approach. However, my tendonitis and carpal tunnel did not.  I had to give it up. It's very high on repetition. My friends like it and enjoy it however.

this girl did it many years ago and it worked then - went down around 50 lbs.  Of course i changed my eating.  The thing that help me the most was the camaraderie.  i went at the same time every day (lunch time) and got to know the others.  As we did the circuit we talked about recipe ideas and, of course, our children and grandchildren.  It's always good to be with positive people!
i quit when i was laid off that job.  i never rejoined.  Now i'm thinking about it again.  i went back to Weight Watchers and when i get some money (i'm on retirement now) i know it will work for me again.
Some modifications will have to be made. i will probably just do a walking step in between machines.

oh yes, i would like to lose weight, but i also want to gain strength and not lose muscle mass. I read horror stories of women at 50 and above who develop osteoperosis, lose muscle mass, and develope bad balance.   In other words, i don't want to go gently in that good night. I want to remain active and healthy until i am 99.  After all, if i want to be caned then i have to be able to climb onto the table - hehe.

My mother joined Curves and at first, she felt great but then developed some left leg problems.  She is 81 years old and now has the beginning stages of osteoarthritis.  I don't really believe this is from the machines but rather part of her aging process.

I have a treadmill at home, which I love to put on some music and just work out.  My mother will also go on the treadmill but at a slower rate of speed, which might help her problems.

I just feel very self-conscious about going out to places like Curves and the gym because of my body.  I like doing this at home, though and can wear a nightgown while walking on the treadmill, too.

Curves is only for women.  You can wear regular clothes that are not binding.  I wore a loose t-shirt and pull on elastic waist slacks.  Most of the women there were overweight and out of condition, too.  The skinnier ones were overweight when they started.

Have you visited a Curves?  Seen what it looks like?  It's not like a gym.

Exercising at home works for some people.  I like the chatter and ideas from being in a group.

i joined curves about 45 days ago or so....i love it and find it very helpful and exciting. The great thing is, for a person like me, it doesn't allow my obsessiveness to kick in.  Apparently i've been building muscle instead of losing fat which is the only frustrating part for me.

But, muscle burns energy in the long run and is denser than fat.  You will notice your clothes fit looser even if you haven't lost weight.  After a short while the new muscle will burn more fat than before...and continue to burn energy for a little while after you stop exercising each time.
Keep at it...you will lose.

I joined and paid for my daughter to join me.  I enjoyed it a lot.

I was on some medication that was making me gain weight at one point, but until then the workouts were helping me to lose.  I had more energy, didn't find the exercises too hard even though I have some medical problems, and liked that it was only women.  That way it was no glamor show but women who were really there to make themselves look better.  We would all applaud if someone else lost weight or inches.  It was fun.

my friend was doing curves for about a year and she lost 100 pounds with diet and exercise.  she was doing great until she tore a muscle in her shoulder slipping on ice and needed surgery, she's still trying to get back to what her previous workouts were after being released from pt.
