Anyone who is argues the health-care debate,either way,should watch this compelling and eye opening 60 Minutes piece.

A remote expedition medical out-fit created to serve the 3rd world,is now spending 60% of it`s time, money and resources in the US.

Another sign that something`s broken in our system. When you have health-care that costs twice as much per head to administer,those with-out insurance go without care.Untreated teeth,no follow up care to cancer surgery,a guy who had two heart-attacks and no follow up care,etc. I`m getting tired of the have-mores pissing on those Americans who are slipping through the cracks. Health care,good sufficient health care should not be a privilege!! The most striking example of the failure of our health care system was the elderly woman at the end,who needed new eye-glasses. She was no welfare queen.She was no dippy chick who never worked hard or saved. She was your average elderly person, who all to often are left to fend for themselves and are without many options,other than dying. Folks like her (poor and marginally poor folks)shouldn`t be made to feel ashamed to get help.

Nationalized health care has just as many horror stories... The real answer lies somewhere between the 2.

For the sake of balance, and to show why a completely nationalized health care system will not work.

In May, the Toronto Star ran a story about an Ontario man with a fist-sized hole in his head - due to an car accident - who had to wait one year for surgery to close it. Indeed, the newspapers of Canada, the UK, Ireland, New Zealand & Australia feature a constant weekly stream of horror stories about their nationalized systems. Two weeks ago, a study was released by doctors at Glasgow University showing that 464,000 deaths had been caused over the last 30 years by the NHS in Scotland and that "the vast majority of people - around 250,000 - who died due to inadequate or delayed treatment were heart or stroke patients".

There is no doubt that something needs to be changed, but claiming that nationalizing health care will fix all of the problems is like me using dynamite to clean out the trunk of my car... it will definitely get it "clean" but introduces alot of other problems.

If Medical insurance was forced to revamp and conform to more likely and logical policies, closer to car insurance then it would help. The Tort system on malpractice would need to be reformed as well, since Malpractice Insurance is a huge expense to doctors. Combine these reforms with some solid State medical coverage for poverty level, and subisdized for lower incomes, then many of the problems would be reduced.

I do not believe we will find the perfect answer, but the current system is not working very well and I do not trust the Government with health care because of how fucked up they do every other program they are involved in.

Owner, you made my "other" point.

Public heathcare sucks, private healthcare sucks. What other types are there ? None. Therefore I guess we agree, healthcare sucks.

When I get sick and can't beat whatever it is, I will die.

No doctors, no pills, nothing like that. Ever.

Have you perfected faith healing? Found an infinite source of money? Because if not, somebody in a suit is going to be deciding what the value of a human life is... and chances are, it's going to be a lot less than you think your life is worth.

i won't argue that our current system is broken. i also don't want to entrust my health to the same people that run the DMV or the IRS. i'm just saying that you can't assign infinite resources to every person with a medical complaint under either system, and no matter which direction you approach it from, withholding life-saving measures are a slippery slope.
