i attended a play party last weekend. While having a conversation about the differences between a sub and a slave, another Master made the comment that a girl can only consider herself a slave truly, IF she has gone through the "taking of a slave" ceremony. i have searched and searched and found nothing. is this something that is considered "old school" or something that used to be done and isnt anymore? i am curious to know more. if anyone knows anything about this, i would be very excited to hear so. thanks in advance.

I take it as a rule of thumb that if anyone tries to universalise a standard within BDSM ... it indicates something more like wishful thinking .. than actual reality. (I know that is also a generalisation on my part ... but I think generalisations are slightly fluffier and less offensive than universalisations) Things are what they are for the people that do them. ~FR~ I've never heard that term and I've been involved in BDSM for a very long time. That said, I'm quite sure I haven't heard of everything, so who knows. Have you thought about asking him what he meant? Maybe it's known by another term in different areas - perhaps a collaring ceremony. In any event, sweeping generalizations don't work for me when it comes to personal, intimate relationships so I wouldn't buy whatever it is he's trying to sell. edited because I've spent so much time trying to learn Portuguese that I've forgotten English. ::sigh::

I was teasing myself, LA. I was just remembering a few parties/munches where these deabates were going on and a mischievous soul (never me of course) would throw out some random phrase or concept just for fun. I rather figured that the whole "taking of a slave ceremony" was the work of someone similar.
