Status: offline 		i attended a play party last weekend. While having a conversation about the differences between a sub and a slave,  another Master made the comment that a girl can only consider herself a slave truly, IF she has gone through the "taking of a slave" ceremony. i have searched and searched and found nothing. is this something that is considered "old school" or something that used to be done and isnt anymore? i am curious to know more. if anyone knows anything about this, i would be very excited to hear so. thanks in advance.

Status: offline 		I take it as a rule of thumb that if anyone tries to universalise a standard within BDSM ... it indicates something more like wishful thinking .. than actual reality. (I know that is also a generalisation on my part ... but I think generalisations are slightly fluffier and less offensive than universalisations)

I've never heard that term and I've been involved in BDSM for a very long time. That said, I'm quite sure I haven't heard of everything, so who knows. Have you thought about asking him what he meant? Maybe it's known by another term in different areas - perhaps a collaring ceremony. In any event, sweeping generalizations don't work for me when it comes to personal, intimate relationships so I wouldn't buy whatever it is he's trying to sell.

It's not something I am familiar with.  Unless it is the slutling on her knees begging for the collar, and me locking the steel.  The phrase is not something I have heard of amongst Goreans, or those of my kinkier friends.

Not to pass the buck, but is it possible that he was confused and inserting what he thought was common practice amongst the "Old" or"New" leather communities?  Perhaps, mixing in something he thought he heard about Old Guard practices?  My memory is way off on this one, because I cannot remember what the ceremony was called, perhaps if Archer stops by he can enlighten us.

It is decidedly not Gorean, by any stretch of the imagination.

And yes, this seems like a stretch of the guy's imagination, not any general (or even obscure) practice.
