I apparently have "not my master" syndrome, because if someone dictates how I should act, feel, or relate, I ignore them. If someone mails me saying that I should behave or act in a specific way, or else I'm not so-and-so (a true sub, a good wife, a decent person, etc.) I have a tendency to write them off. I am who I am, regardless of whether strangers like it or not.

There is of course a vast difference in some one experienced trying to show some body where they (the Dom etc0 believes the other person is wrong, why and how in their opinion to correct the percieved error. It is indeed a fine line to walk to be able to offer helpfull advise and a considered opinion and to apperar to be condescending and interfering. generally many areas of offered help are better done in private if the recipient is willing to accept help.

One of the best examples of this and the negative ways which "correction" s done is to have a good read through the Gorean Lifestyle forum, where points are raised and if certain masters disagree they do so with evident distane, sarcasm, a condecending attitude and rudeness for those who have differing opinions. (hence so many threads were either pulled or locked down, but that is another matter).

Years ago I was shown a technique which is non offensice or threatening. The technique is one demonstrated by Dale Carnegie (I've probably misspelt the name but you get this at times) when he would say: "Fred, I may be wrong, but have you considered trying it this way......." This leave the back door open for an honourable out and saveing face and yet it allows the person to alter their methods or techniques in a positive manner. I'll listen to people who take this well mannered approach rather than those who start off with (in effect) "Your wrong!..... " (Them's fighting words in my book and mostly guaranteed that I'll discount anything they say even if out of sheer bloody mindedness)

i giggle. i usually try to explain that what they're offering isn't what i'm looking for and wish them well, but often that's tossed back in my face. When that happens, i consider the source and move on. If what they've said, however, is crude and rude, i don't even bother with that much.

Happy Sunday, y'all..

I understand your amusement but the question I have is: "Did you ask them for information or an opinion?" If you did then why do you fault them for disagreeing with you? You don't have to USE their information but they volunteered it in good faith and it should be taken as such. If you didn't ask for their opinion then they are intruding and should be laughed at or simply ignored.

I find them to be quite amusing and good for a laugh or two. Very rarely do I become upset or angry at their words.

Can't claim to be "Old School" but I have been around enough...

When I started, I listened to everything, and sometimes sought to change with what I learned. Once I realized that a lot of these selfstyled experts were giving me contradictory information I started to get pissed.

Now I pretty much do what John said and laugh. Usually I am polite enough to laugh inside, but I have laughed out loud at some of the really persistant ones.

I wouldn't define myself as old school. I would treat them no different to how I would if it was a self proclaimed 'internet dominant', a self proclaimed 'old guard', self proclaimed 'Gorean Master' or self proclaimed dominant, submissive, slave, kajira, pet, daddy or whatever they labelled themselves, of any sort.

I thank them for their point of view, then explain that my definitions stem from a different direction to them and explain the view I from how I have been taught. It is then up to them to accept my words as irrelevant to them or, take it and expand upon it. If they proceed to push, they can. They wouldn't effect me and I would just tell them that their thoughts did not relate to me, but I am grateful for their input as I will have learnt from their interaction either way - be it positive or negative.

Peace and Rapture

I dont ask informations or/and opinions from people who dictate, profess or try to correct me instead of providing information/opinion as their point of view and in civil manners.

Therefore those that dictate, profess and correct I can only find amusing to some point. When they cross my lines I ignore them.

I am open to new ideas, regardless of where they come from. I believe that Winston Churchill once said "The greatest lesson in life is to know that even fools are right sometimes.", and I feel that I would rather listen and evaluate the information, regardless of the source, than to ignore it and find -myself- a fool by failing to heed valuable information.

I think we place entirely too much value on where an individual comes from, and what his or her experience is, and whether he or she is 'real', when there is absolutely -no- way of knowing this in the online medium. Our girl, sunshine, knows that we are real, because she is here with us, has washed our dirty laundry, has felt my rose-tipped crop and the moose-hide flogger. But not ONE of you knows who I am or where I came from, without having actually spent time with me. So how do you know whether I am speaking something that makes sense? You read, and you judge. You listen, you decide whether I'm a jerk or not, and you weigh my words accordingly. In the same way, if someone presents information that is clearly without merit, you read, you make a judgement call, and you dismiss the information to wherever it is that useless information goes in the Universe (obeying, of course, the laws of Conservation of Energy).

No matter where a person comes from, there may be -something- he or she says that is valuable. Take the words for any value they have, and don't worry so much about whether the person is "real", "online", "virtual" or any other label that one wants to place on things.

It depent on the way it is said, if somone say, you were rude now i examine what i have said as i somtimes ahve a biting thounge and a bit of a temper and if it is true, i apologise, somtimes i apologise anyway as it cost me so little to keep the peace. Most often i simply ignore it when somone i dont know tells me how i should run my life, but somtimes i get sad to, espesicaly when somone have desided i am a horrible person just from reading a few of my posts and have found my wiews disagree whit theirs. It all depend on what is said and how it is said, often it are pepole that honestly want to help, and that is good, but somtimes it is mine way is better than your way pepole, and they thend to be a bit anoying.

I am new to this site and reasonably new to L/s but at 43yrs of age I do have lifes experiences to draw from. I come to these boards to discuss and learn. I am a junky for information and love to indulge in the thought and philosophy, it adds spice to life. I enjoy seeing things from other perspectives and find even if I do not agree with them they can help clarify my own thoughts. As I have said before I feel to belittle someone else's opions or thoughts is in fact to belittle my own and lacks respect ... it is far better to treat others as I would like to be treated and there fore I tend to ignore the rude or abnoxious as opposed to joining thier game and encourage their behavior, just because someone does not have manners or respect for others is no reason for me to join them.
warm smiles to all

I always love it when a supposed salve/sub/whtever tells me I'm doing it wrong! First of all, *I'm* the Domina, not them. Beyond it being laughable, it's also pathetic. I'm writing an article at the moment called "Wankers, Weirdos, and Wannabes", about this very topic. If anyone has a story they would like to relate you can send it to my email address ([email protected]), I'd love to hear about it.

"Whats this shit writing O/o and such forth doomat get a life and stop dictating term ,you must be totally submissive or get out.

Whats with this 5'10 we use metrics in Australia"

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I recieved this message from a Dom on this site who obviously took some sort of objection to my profile, I will not reply or take it to heart and love the attribute of block for this medium lol
Given my age it is safe to say that metric in Australia came out while I was at school ... though I did adjust I have always felt more at home with feet and inches lol ... but in case He reads this I am actually 176cms tall ... a fraction under 5'10" lol
I will add this to the one from a previous site that informed me I was too tall to be a submissive lol

warm smiles to all
