All righty.

For some reason I have alot of banana spiders this year.   http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/pest/spiders.php    How do I get rid of so many?  Does anyone have worse this year of any pests?

I could dusk cobwebs every single day....

You put on your orange vest, and tell them that they are unlawfully tresspassing and must vacate immediatley...  [:D]

That's why God made vacuums.  Suck those suckers right up.

DarkSteven -> RE: advice: too many tan spiders (7/15/2008 5:18:09 AM)

Scorpions eat spiders.  Get a few dozen scorpions, and set 'em free.

Since you're in Pennsylvania, I doubt it's a banana spider (otherwise known as Golden silk orb-weavers.)  They only live in warmer areas of the country.  The spiders you have are probably harmless.  By the way, cobwebs are not caused by spiders.  Cobwebs are caused by dust accumulation.  So clean your house more.

Here's an idea. Have you thought about doing a Google search using the key words "spider control"? It seems IMHO that you'd find a lot more viable infomation there, rather than here. Here is one good link with a lot of good information. http://www.stretcher.com/stories/02/02jul01a.cfm

DomAviator -> RE: advice: too many tan spiders (7/15/2008 5:34:22 AM)

I think darksteven is on to something... Release snakes in your house as they will eat the spiders, then release a few mongooses to get the snakes....  [:D]

Slaveboy, your right and I also think if it were a bananna spider he would have shit his pants and evacuated the house. The ones here in Texas make webs like 6 feet in size and they are bright yellow with black legs and are about 3" from leg to leg... http://www.hcp4.net/jones/pw/arachnids.htm  they can get REALLY out of hand with their webs as you can see http://www.texasento.net/Social_Spider.htm#Photo

Yep DA, we have them here too.  They are fucking huge.  Spiders don't usually bother me, but I did get freaked out once by one.  I was visiting a girlfriend a few years ago, and she asked me if I would bring a plant she had in the house.  It was supposed to get cold, and she didn't want it to die.  So I picked up the pot and brought it in.  As we were sitting there talking, she noticed something under the rim of the planter.  I went over and looked, and to my horror there was a huge Black Widow under there.  I had just picked that whole pot up; it spooked the shit out of me.  I started checking my hands for bites.  I went and got a jar and captured it.  I took it over to the local college and gave it to the biology department.

I have 3 vacummes.  All broke.  It was 4, but I threw one out.

Dust here is terrible. I live on a main road. I could reach out and touch it.  [no front yard]  [but no grass to mow in front]  Then a cement wall at river.  Just watering the yard gets my hair gritty.

Maybe it could be too much mulch.

I HATE the street- the crime and noise 24-7.

I dont mind a few spiders...  but I never had them this bad.   Oh but not near the bed- that is --well icky.

Scorpions.  yikes.

PaHunk, WD-40 is good for all kinds of things.
I use it to knock flies out of the air, it binds their wings up.
You can use it on spyders too!

I live in PA also. That god we don't have banana spider, or i'd be walking around in a constant state of terror.

and THIS, boys and girls, is the cause of my arachnaphobia.

one of those babies got into my gramma's house and built a web.  i was maybe 5, and sleepwalking, and woke up and opened my eyes to behold that thing about 6 or 7 inches in front of my face.

i have a spider truce, if they're outside they have a right to live.  if they come into my home, they're suicidal and have a death wish.  and i scream for someone to come rescue me from then 8 legged assasins!

kitten, shuddering

Well, to be honest, if there is a large amount of spiders living in your home, use any flammable liquid in a spray can... makes dandy flame thrower.

LaTigresse -> RE: advice: too many tan spiders (7/15/2008 12:49:31 PM)

I also have a motto for spiders. If you are outside and stay the hell out of my way, you live. If you enter my house or get in my way, you die.

I get the stuff the Orkin guys use. All bugs that enter must die.

PanthersMom -> RE: advice: too many tan spiders (7/15/2008 1:30:42 PM)

i will not go walking in the woods around where DA lives!!  well, in my case rolling, but no way!!!!  i hate spiders!!!!!!!!!

Two things: One, I now have gooseflesh and chills running down my spine; I DO NOT like spiders, still less big ones, and if I even distantly suspect they may be poisonous, I shriek in terror. Even daddy-long-legs creep me out if they get to close. *shudders* And two, that's a freaking HUGE spider web omg!

Termyn8or -> RE: advice: too many tan spiders (7/15/2008 5:45:24 PM)

One thing though, what do spiders eat ? They eat insects. Now if your house can be infested by spiders, what are they eating ? Where do they seem to be coming from ? Is it possible you have termites or some other infestation that they are living on ?

I would look into that, and really if they do not get too obtrusive and are like in the basement or something, you might be better off coexisting with them for a time. Let them eat whatever they are eating.

Just a thought from the resident radical.

DomAviator -> RE: advice: too many tan spiders (7/15/2008 5:59:53 PM)

LOL Relax ladies the bananna spider is non-venomous. They can only kill you by giving you a heart attack LOL However, we do have black widows, brown widows, and the brown recluse - all of which are venomous. As well as a couple of flavors of scorpions, rattlesnakes, copperheads, water moccasins and coral snakes. We also have gators in the fresh water LOL

Edited to add: However, no visit to Texas is complete without an encounter with a tree roach. Picture a 3" long 1" wide hissing cockroach that lands on your nose to lick the sweat off LOL

LOL.
