I'm interested in buying bondage furniture and gear from several Mistresses who are going into retirement, and we have a quandry... how do you get something large (like a full size  wooden cross that doesn't come apart or exam table) from one state (or country) to another?

Thank you in advance.

It is expensive and it requires Ocean Cargo or Train Freight and Wooden Crates. I would suggest a Moving Company if it is in the states however if you are going to be shiping them to another coutry I suggest you start by calling a Ocean Freight Company and asking what is the best way to get them moved.

Also you can be as honest about what they are as you want, I would however suggest you call it ART because then they will tell you how to get it there in ONE PIECE.

I agree with Steel! Though Our removalists listed the cross down as "wooden frame" on the inventory LOL!

Good luck!

The more and more I hear about issues with moving crosses the more I think my friends idea  is wonderful. Hes talking about making a cross out of four pieces tht can be broke down for travel and when you want to put it away.

I recently recieved my copy of The Better Built Bondage Book and they have plans in them for a cross like that, that can be fully dismantled. I have yet to build it but there are a few conserns that I have with the construction. Mostly I am concerned about the weight distribution when and if a sub colapses.

As for shipping, I find that most furniture regardless of what it is used for is expensive to ship, Perhaps you get a U-Haul and take it yourself.

I wonder if you have considered either building (or having built) the equipment you desire.  I suspect that it would be much less expensive than some shipping costs you may face.   Most such furniture does not require masive skills to create, and plans for most are readily available on the net.  (And if you are in a community where you fear farming the work out, you may be able to enlist the services of one or more handy subs.

Most crosses are so crude that shipping them isn't worth the cost of freight, in fact I would say that about most bdsm stuff.  Exam tables come up on craigslist for $150 somewhat often if you are near a big city, less so I would think if you are in the boonies.

There is some nice furniture out there but most of it is just crap from home depot screwed together.  Instinctive from here is working on my website TortureWood.com and we will not only have some beautiful furniture, it will be worth shipping, it will break down and be easy to assemble.  Some of it will even convert into real furniture.

Interesting comments, especially from my perspective.

I make very high quality dungeon furnishings and equipment. One of the reasons I started was that most of the gear I saw in dungeons was not of the best quality, and often times safety was compomised as a result. Another reason was that I already had been working as a furniture maker (vanilla furniture) for a number of years and had the full workshop, tools and skills to do so pretty easily.

Steel, your comments about safety are legitimate. I've not seen dungeon gear that breaks down easily that I have considered to be as safe as I insist on it being. And frequently the many pieces and parts required to make it so also make it a real cluster to assemble, adjust and to disassemble.

All of this being said, utilizing superior materials (my walnut crosses are made of walnut, not a lesser wood that has been stained) and craftsmanship it is possible to design and construct pieces that have some degree of portability while still maintaining the solidity and safety most of us prefer.

Certainly the last thing I want during a scene is to have say "Hold on honey, I just need to reattach this piece here so...." Talk about a flow stopper. Worse would be to have a catastrophic failure, and accident.

My Dom made/ makes a cross that broke down into smaller pieces so it could be shipped flat as well.  Basically was just long boards.  He typically does custom furniture - but then again what could be more CUSTOM furniture.
That might be a good title for it to ship as well.  LOL
