Asmodeus -> How quickly do you tell someone your full name? (7/16/2008 1:48:36 PM)

Just curious how people handle that.  I'm not hiding anything but due to the nature of my professional life, if you google my name you'll get about 20,000 hits, 90% of which are directly related to me.  I'm not all that comfortable telling a stranger, but once I meet someone in person I have no issues with it.

Wow...do I ever hear you there.  I get tons of shit for not giving my full name immediately.  Oh well.

LaTigresse -> RE: How quickly do you tell someone your full name? (7/16/2008 1:51:11 PM)

Sometimes immediately, sometimes never. Depends on the vibe I get from the person and what, if anything, is in it for me.

Full name? It takes me a couple of weeks before I tell
you my first name.

tkenslve -> RE: How quickly do you tell someone your full name? (7/16/2008 1:57:33 PM)

i am more worried about telling people what town i actually live in then my real name. But, i do have the same name as a very public person, so any search has little to do with me. i tend to share my first name after 2 or 3 emails and my last whenever it seems necessary.

In the Lifestyle?  Rarely if ever.
In a job interview?  That is part of the process
In casual settings?  Seldom

I like the way you think.

I'll give my first name - or the nicname that I've gone by for Years (both in and out of the lifestyle) - fairly quickly.  Full name?  When I trust someone - which, considering how little I trust the rest of humanity, may very well mean Never.

There are people who have known me for YEARS (literally) who have no clue what my real name is - first OR last, much less both - because they know me as Rhi, and that's all they know me as.  The exception to that is those folks who've been given my business card.  It lists my real name, in full.  But those who know me due to Business rarely know me for any Other reason.

As for people knowing what city I actually live in - why should it bother me for them to know?  There's close to a million people living in this metro area, if not more than a million.  Knowing my city doesn't mean squat if they don't know which Part of the metro.  Frankly, if they're capable of hunting me down out of a million or so people, not knowing my real full name or location other than somewhere in this particular metro - kudos to them, because they've worked their ass off to do so.

KyttynTheMynx -> RE: How quickly do you tell someone your full name? (7/16/2008 2:31:10 PM)

I ask people to call me by either this handle, or the one on my instant messenger.  Around 30% of my online friends know my real name and location.  And I like it that way.  As for coming across someone in a public place, they get the first name, and when they ask my location, I just throw out "Oh, about X minutes from here."  I am just picky about who knows what...

For complaining - I have an aka all ready and it rolls off the toungue.

If I am serious about a person, then I would probaly disclose it.

coupleowl -> RE: How quickly do you tell someone your full name? (7/16/2008 2:37:02 PM)

We'll give our firsts names, rarely anything else.

slaveboyforyou -> RE: How quickly do you tell someone your full name? (7/16/2008 2:38:21 PM)

It depends how I feel when I talk to someone.  I really don't worry about it.  My name is fairly common, and I googled it in parenthesis along with my state.  I came up with 3,850 matches.  Only a few of them are related to me.  Even if someone managed to track me down....what are they going to do?  It's not like it's a state secret where I live or what I do.

Mandysbitch -> RE: How quickly do you tell someone your full name? (7/16/2008 2:43:11 PM)

I wise Domme wants told me keep your vanilla life your vanilla life and your D/s life your D/s life...if the people in your D/s life can't respect your need to protect your vanilla life..they need not be in your D/s life.

LaTigresse -> RE: How quickly do you tell someone your full name? (7/16/2008 2:55:24 PM)

Some of us don't have as much of a need to seperate our lives between vanilla and non...... very understandable if you do, just understand some of us don't.

Real_Trouble -> RE: How quickly do you tell someone your full name? (7/16/2008 3:04:53 PM)

I am somewhat free with my name, because it's a very common name.

Telling it to someone doesn't really confer them much "google-ability", if you will.  If I google myself, the first few hundred hits do not relate to me, as I have the luck of having a former NFL player who shared my name; all of the first hits are him.

A nice cover.  Even so, I don't usually share until I trust someone, however long that takes to develop (varies by person).

slvemike4u -> RE: How quickly do you tell someone your full name? (7/16/2008 3:32:52 PM)

I would say that I wait a decent interval...but than I realised the people i have given my Yahoo IM  to ...have my name right in the addy...maybe I have to go back to the intelligence thread and retract all my claims of genius ?

Asmodeus -> RE: How quickly do you tell someone your full name? (7/16/2008 3:37:43 PM)

I wasn't actually referring to just randomly telling people in the scene your name ( I don't know if anyone I know strictly in the scene actually knows my real name and I've been active for about 30 years). I was thinking more along the lines of when you are planning on meeting someone that you actually know only from online and are looking to develop a real life relationship.

Evility -> RE: How quickly do you tell someone your full name? (7/16/2008 3:48:31 PM)

My last name is an uncommon spelling of not very common last name. I have never seen anyone with my first and last name combination and when I google it all hits point to me - mostly from Usenet since I post with my real name there and in most other forums. As far as corresponding with folks online I'm not terribly protective of it. I generally approach it from a quid pro quo perspective. I'm usually willing to trade any info that the other person is willing to trade. If it doesn't come up before then I would probably not see any reason to give my full name before I met the other party in person. Basically it just isn't a big deal to me.

PanthersMom -> RE: How quickly do you tell someone your full name? (7/16/2008 4:22:23 PM)

i've got one of those fairly common names.  when i'm interested in meeting someone, i expect full disclosure just as i will give all my own information.  if they're not interested in exchanging information, i'm not willing to meet.  one of the men i dated emailed me scanned copies of his driver's license and his proof of address before i even asked for it.  i thought that was an interesting approach.

Some of us live in small towns with only a few thousand people, where the phone book quickly reveals you're the only one of your name. I'm one of them.

And since my town is the only one in the nation with that name, I don't reveal that.
