LOL. The first one was good, I heard it before but it is still good. That second one though.

I'll have to go looking around for more Tom Mabe.

I don't suppose any of you stop to think that the telemarketer doesn't like having to call people either...maybe its the only job he can find

If that is the only job you can find then you made a serious mistake somewhere in life.

Moreover than that you had to know what you were getting into that you would not be liked and you would have to take this kind of crap.

Just like a Plumber accepts at some point he will be dealing with Shit a Telemarketer knows at some point they will get someone who dislikes what they do THAT much.

No Pity what-so-ever for someone who CHOSE the job they are doing. If you don't like it do something about it but don't whine about it and no one needs to stick up for them either.

i have a gf in illinois who has a masters degree and she finally took a telemarketing job because she needed to put food on the table until she could find something better or in her field.  just because someone has a bad job doesnt' mean they chose it or did something wrong with their lives.  sometimes a bad job is better than no job at all, especially when jobs are scarce in some areas of the country.

I disagree I have never in my life found that the Last Resort was a Telemarketer Job, I have had MANY MANY MANY Jobs (I get bored and want to learn more and they don't want me to, I have yet to figure this concept out)

When telemarketing is available so is Waiting Tables and Fast Food and in reality I would take either one of them over telemarketing.

At one point in my life I was on my way to becomeing a Major Part of WorldComLDDS and would have had a nice office and company car right out of highschool. Then the FBI got involved and investigated the company and so many people went to Jail. Had I gotten Promoted before that day I would have been one of them.

In Most Cases Telemarketers are High Pressure Sales and if thier product was so damn good then it wouldn't need such force to sale it.

Sorry you may not agree but of all the jobs one can do I respect this one the least and regret having ever done the work I did.

i didn't say a telemarketer job is always a last resort job, i said sucky jobs in general are, and telemarketing jobs are definitely my idea of sucky jobs.  all i'm saying is that sometimes people have to take whatever is there until something else is available, whether it's picking up dog poop or picking up a phone.

I was a telemarketer for six months for an insurance company.   I quit because I could not get paid half the time, and the agents would not go on their appointments I would make.
I was good.
I like retail better.  Hours suck.
I did Burger King for many years when I was young.  You cannot wear artificial nails there.  I walked out one day to get them done.
Right now, I hate my job.  Waiting on the recession to end so I can change.

I think Air is right. Are telemarketers not human ? I have met one here and one in RL, each time I did not know exactly what to say about it.

I can be DEVASTATING. Give me that first two or three minutes and I will probably know as much about you as you know about yourself. These people read a script, they know nothing about sales, let alone psychology.

I have actually thought, and am thiking thaqt I have been too hard on these people. Atthe beryleast they have a job and arenot on welfare. I will have to consider thayt thenext time they call.

But why ?\

LOL... I have done something similar... not so extesive... more like...   "Thank you for calling, can I have your account number?  Well I can look that up via your social security number.  Please verify your address and social security number."   Make for a short phone call... LOL

There are all sorts of telemarketing jobs, not all of them selling timeshares or drek. Time Life books, videos and music have been sold by telemarketing for years as have certain types of cookbooks and encyclopedias. Some you call, some call you, but either way, telemarketing is a hard job that requires you to have thick skin and an ability to face constant rejection. It is also an extremely flexible job as far as hours and schedules go, letting you work around aging parents, raising kids, a primary job, and will accept as employees anyone who can wear a head set and speak clearly including the 75 year old trying to stretch social security, amputees and those who have physical challenges that make the general public uncomfortable such as burn victims. There just aren't enough back office jobs available. A friend of mine is an excellent employee who has a service dog. He was downsized at his last position and is having a great deal of trouble finding employment that will allow him to have his service dog, even though it is illegal to discriminate because he has to have one. Trust me employers will find many reasons not to hire you including another applicant was better when you have a service dog. Sooooo telemarketing is a good probability for him. Telemarketing firms don't care as long as you can come in and do your job.

I don't like telemarketing, did it in the past to feed my kids, and use the don't call list to keep them out of my life. Of course that doesn't stop places that we do business with doing marketing calls, like the bank. Tom Mabe can get on that list just as easy, so can anyone.

The first one was mildly funny..not a big fan of non-consensual pranks, but the second was cruel and should have landed Mabe with a Cop on his door. Most telemarketers will alert the police if there is someone in distress or threatening suicide, and it is easy for them to do as they have not only your phone number on the screen, but your name, and current address.  Cops don't like pranks that call them away from serious police business..and this one could have.
