i only hit non moving objects with cars... not really sure why, but i've hit parked cars, fences, trees (ok that was when i spun out the suv on an ice patch) ...

I am a sub, have been driving for 34 years 0 accidents that were my fault(was sideswiped once by a truck that came into my lane), 1 speeding ticket--though have been pulled over several times for going too fast and let go with a warning only -- and 2 parking tickets .. I love driving ..but I also like testing my vehicle capabilities and responsiveness in more extreme conditions and usually in the first major winter storm of the season I take the car out to somewhere safe and open and do some practicing by purposely putting the car into skids and correcting ...which has allowed me to avoid some very serious potential accidents because I know what my car is capable of and how it will respond and it also teaches me not to panic and concentrate on driving to avoid or look for the safest way out. I think alot of this stemmed from my earlier years when water skiing with multiple others which taught me the importance of timing and learning to judge and paying attention to conditions so as not to have your rope suddenly go slack or have a wave break over top of your skis and pull them off and where others were in relation to you and to react when a potential dangerous situation came up otherwise you risked having your head split open by anothers ski blade or tow rope cut across your neck

My accident happened during one of those infamous Florida afternoon thunderstorms, where visibility is about 100'. A young man thought it would be a good idea to pass on a double yellow line at a high speed and hit the car ahead of me head on. The force of impact drove that car backwards into mine. His poor choice cost him his life, caused permanent brain damage to the young lady in the car in front of me, and totalled 3 vehicles. Fortunately my son nor I were seriously injured.

I have answered "I am something else, drive and have had a car accident." Three of them actually. All in sleet/freezing rain conditions on upstate NY roadways at night. All happened about twenty years ago or so. #1 - Hitting a semi's trailer while it was jack-knifed across the roadway just on the other side of a blind curve. I had about 50 feet with which to respond and with the road surface slicked up from freezing rain, I aimed the car for the trailer's rear wheels. My car's nose crumpled; there were small explosions as the battery exploded; I bounced backwards into the air and came to rest about 20 feet away. I had a sore neck but no injuries otherwise. The driver of the rig received 17 citations that night (they basically threw the book at him for every safety violation they could find, like bald tires, no trailer brakes, non-functional clearance lights, etc.). I received a brand new car as the one that was lying in the road, crumpled, was brand new to begin with and no payments had yet to be made on it. #2 - I got side-swiped by a deer who bounded out of the forest, hit me in the driver's door, then bounded back into the forest, less about three or four inches of its hide. The impact pushed me off the road and into a nearby field, as it was sleeting and the roads were nothing but water over ice. No injuries to me, the car had $3500 damage (on a car that cost me $8000 to begin with) and the deer... no one could find it, though they did track it through the forest for a while by following a trail of blood. #3 - I was hit from behind by someone trying to outrun the law on yet another slippery night. The accident took place on the entrance ramp to a local interstate when I was hit from behind, the force of which broke my car's rear wheel mounts, causing them to lay down flat on the road like pancakes. I spun around and bounced off the center guard rail for a while and when the car stopped, I got out and watched the pursuit continue on down the highway. Again, only a sore neck were my injuries. Needless to say, I do not drive when the forecast calls for sleet or freezing rain. Not because I have issues with my skills (for I don't; as with a previous poster, I practiced my spin and slide skills the first chance I had) but because I have no faith in anyone else's skills.

I've only had two moving violations in my life. The first I did not deserve and i took it to court, but with a green lawyer fresh out of law school, a main witness that did not show up, a cop and judge in a small podunk town (less than 1000 people) that had never been challenged in court before, and the cop not even being able to define what it was that i was being charged with, i ended up losing the case. The second violation was the result of an accident. I will admit, i did deserve that one, but two other people should have been cited as well, and they weren't. I was taking mechanics in trade school during the day, and working as an orderly in a nursing home at night. I had 15 minutes to get cleaned up from working on greasy motors, then drive across town (a slightly larger town than the one before) and be at the front desk of the nursing home in my work whites. A semi had parked in front of a cafe and had blocked the view of any traffic coming down the street. It was raining. I thought i could see under the semi and did not see any traffic approaching, so i pulled out. WRONG thing to do! I T-boned a brand new Datsun 240-Z, belonging to an insurance salesman. There is no doubt in my mind that the Datsun was speeding, but with the rain there were no skid marks. I think the other driver should have been cited, as well as the truck driver for parking and obstructing vision. Oh well. Win a few....well, make that lose a few, lose a few more. Anyway that was in January 1971 and haven't had a moving violation since.

I was in my 4 door 1967 Cadillac Fleetwood 75 limousine when I lightly scraped the paint on the door of a cop car in a gas station trying to maneuver up to a gas pump in Michigan. The cops laughed and said “don’t worry, the city will pay for it.” I was in my 4 door 1964 Lincoln Continental convertible on a back road in Texas on the inside of a curve when I saw someone coming too fast from the other direction. I pulled off the road to the inside shoulder. The idiot was drunk and realized they were going too fast so they hit the brakes. The car fishtailed and when it was pointing right at me they freaked out and took their foot off the break and managed to slam right into me. It was ridiculous. Even though I saw them driving like a fool, pulled off the road and stopped, on the inside shoulder of a curve, they still managed to hit me. I was in my 4 door 1997 Volkswagen Jetta when some very old man ran a red light. I saw him coming and swerved way out of the way. I was out into the lanes of the cross street but that old man just kept coming after me like a nut. Finally he managed to tag me a little bit in the back door. …that sums it up.

I've not had a car accident for um um counting slowly on her fingers over 15 years. Prior to that I had had several, both simple fender-benders and ones that resulted in my being carted away by ambulance. During my entire driving career (25 years) I've never had a single ticket except for one when I illegally parked at an airport. ETA 2 accidents were definitely my fault and the other 6 were definitely not my fault!

My car accident did put me off of driving for quite a while, I'll admit. It was 4 weeks after I had gotten my license and 3 before my prom. I was rearended by a school bus going 70, I was stationary. The bus driver was changing the challens on his radio and didnt even know i was there until the metal squealed. No SERIOUS injuries, nothing hospitalworthy, but I was in a cervical collar and a sling up until the day of my prom. I was worried sick I would have to wear it there. Took me years to be able to drive infront of a school bus again with out getting jittery.

2 accidents in 26 years of driving. One was not my fault, the other was my fault. Car sustained serious damage in both. With the first accident, two kids darted into the street (a busy street on my way to work) and I couldn't stop in time. I hit them at about 30-35mph and it was horrifying. Their injuries were miraculously minimal and I had nightmares for 6 months afterwards, and was a very nervous driver for awhile. With the second accident I was driving down the freeway and with one hand, trying to get a bottled water out of the net basket between the front seats. The neck had been tangled in the netting so I looked down briefly to see what was up. When I looked back up, traffic was at a dead stop in front of me. I slammed on my breaks but hit the woman in front of me at about 50mph. My front end was accordianed and her bumper was damaged. We were both shaken up. She was so gracious about it, and we exchanged info and hugged. :) She had whip-lash, and I felt so badly about that.

I have been invloved in 4 accidents thus far. All my fault I am afraid............I guess I am just a bad driver. My latest being last night! Edited to add: I have been involved in more car accidents as a passenger than driver..........maybe I'm just unlucky......

I've been in 3 accidents, none of which were my fault. In the first 2 I was rear-ended while at a stoplight, and in the last one, I was on a street scooter, and was broadsided and (literally) run over by a Chevy Trailblazer. No injuries in the first 2, except for my poor Honda Civic Wagon, which was folded slightly in two when I got sandwiched between the larger car that hit me and a delivery truck. Big injuries on the scooter accident. Fortunately, I was wearing a helmet. The worst injury was a fracture of my tailbone and hip socket. The Trailblazer's driver was talking on the cell phone and "didn't see" my bright orange and white scooter -- then again, she didn't see the STOP sign she ran, either. Firestorm

I am feeling very lucky after reading these posts! I have never had an accident or a speeding ticket in the entire time I have been driving. (Knock on wood and whatever other things I need to do to keep from messing up my luck!) Edited because I am having grammatical issues today.

i've had 2 accidents on the street, but quite a few little ones in parking lots & such since i started driving a semi...the first street accident was in a car & i was rearended when i slowed to pull into a parking lot...luckily, i was driving a 1970 Plymouth Fury III--remember when cars were made of steel?--& all that happened was a very small dent in the trunk lid...the second one i was driving my motorcycle when a little old lady in an Oldsmobile made a left turn right in front of me & i ended up under her car...so neither of those accidents were my fault... i'm a very good driver, very defensive & aware, so i've avoided hundreds more potential accidents...seems a lot of people who drive smaller vehicles are attempting suicide using my big truck as their weapon....i've saved countless lives by not allowing that to happen....[:D]

Two car accidents, the last was in 2000 or 2001. One I was in standing traffic and the woman behind me was looking down a side street to see if her kid was out of school yet. She didn't say she felt bad. The one before that I was coming up to a traffic light, it was yellow, I started to speed up, changed my mind and braked, but the person behind me didn't. Even though it wasn't technically my fault, it was. Mss
