A question:

I am about to attend my first Munch as soon As I get a chance after my move to Dener this weekend.  I have never even read about such events.  Can anyone share with me what is expected of subs/slaves there?

Most munches that I know of are held in vanilla settings like family restaurants.  Therefore, vanilla dress and behavior is what's expected.  In other words, at a munch, it doesn't matter whether one is dom, sub or switch.  Just be polite and try to make friends.

Well, you should contact those who run the munch you will be attending for specific details on how to find the group and what the rules are. However, generally, munches are simply social occasions in a restaurant or a bar, so the emphasis is on wearing ordinary clothes (basic black is always a safe option), nothing too obviously "fetish" (some will allow people to wear collars, others no), and conducting yourself discreetly as you would at any venue open to the general public. The group is likely to resemble an extended family or a bunch of workmates out for a good time! There's no need to Sir and Ma'am everyone, people will be introduced to you or introduce themselves by the name or nickname they prefer. Generally most stick to just a first name for a bit of safety and privacy, and asking people what they do for a job or specifically where they live is not the done thing. Simply be polite and generally respectful of others, you can ask them whether they are Dom/sub/switch etc and just enjoy the freedom of actually meeting likeminded people in the flesh! If you are talking about bdsm, change the topic if restaurant staff approach, it may make them drop your dinner if they hear the word "buttplug" at the wrong moment [:D]

I've read about whats called the grandma rule. If you would wear it or say it around your grandma then your ok. I guess the say it part referes to the staff. It would be kinda funny to see the waiters face if he came up at the wrong time though. But probably not to funny is he dropped your food.

From what I understand of munch ettiquite, you dont even mention what role you are in, unless asked. Check with the munch coordinator and see if there is a dress code, but for the most part, keep in mind where it is held and dress appropriately. Be polite to everyone in attendance and do NOT beg or offer to serve unless it is appropriate. Id suggest sitting back and watching how others behave your first time out, and then enjoying yourself.
