Your personal statement?

Jim was getting curtins, being that he goofed up on the carpet... he got church carpet red- even tho he initially orderred blue. So now he wants cranberry or burgandy or vice versa to match. I said well that is too much red.
e sure
..to which he replied "dont tell me about curtains untill all of your curtains are up".

Best friends can eat at each other to be sure.

I am too busy with more important tasks to put the place in order.  And yet buck says when it comes to selling a house-  zero in on what "ladies like"," if you win over the lady- the man will go along with it"

Anyhow 15 years ago Jim thought it was hallerious that I used a staple gun to put up kitchen curtins.  [it worked tho]

If I had to guess Popeye would do wood shutters to close in storm, very practical.
DA would have his cutom tailored and flown in from Italy- cleaned and pressed every 3 weeks by a Korean guy.

Gosh where is Lady E?

Term would deconstruct the essance of windows.

Gloria would insist a window opens and closes and probaly insists on double hung.

So here is the question. What is the meaning of cutains in ones life?

Dont use  curtains, I prefer wooden shutters.

Actually, to be quite honest, I would prefer arrow slits, but then the walls would have to be two foot thick stone, and formed into a small keep, about 50 foot square, four levels, with an outer wall, behind a motte (dry moat) full of cactus, stakes, poison ivy and a few other things to discourage unwanted guests.

But then, I am in favor of doing away with all technology except the internet and going back to a simpler time, like the dark ages.

hmm- what would you do to block out noise and grime from a highway that house is on?

// I remember as a kid, mom and gram would talk about hair dye and curtains...lol

I live five miles outside the city limits on a road that sees maybe six cars a day.

And there would be glass windows, but they of course would open by pivoting upward.

However, if we didnt have to worry about such things as cars, then dust and grime would be at a minimum.

Of course, DA would be unhappy since airplanes would also no longer exist, forcing him into some sort of research to breed a full sized flying fire breathing dragon he could ride.

Gets a completely insane picture of DA and the Dragon argueing about what is gonna get burned.  The dragon wants to cook a herd of cows, DA wants to nail a castle......

I am not a fan of curtains either, a little dated looking sometimes. I have Levolor blinds in my house, I love them. A panel on either side is nice, but not full window treatments of curtains.

Panels on either side of the window finish off a look and hide the sharp angles of the window the soften the look of a room..  Not talking full coverage curtains, just dressing..
Wood or faux wood blinds in a medium tone would look really nice..

Whatever you do, don't let your friend get red curtains though..  If he want's to coordinate with the carpet color. get a simple pattern that has hints of church red in it, but you want a complimentary, neutral color in this case..

How your friend got a red carpet when he ordered blue ... go figure.  lol  He needs taupe or another neutral color curtain.

I can imagine he laughed at you staple gunning the curtain ... that's hysterical.  I wish I had thought of that a few times when hanging curtain rods had me cursing a blue streak.

Edited to actually answer the question:  The meaning of curtains in my life?  Simply to close off the view and snuggle in during wintertime and to push to the side to let the sun shine in otherwise.

Not one of my windows has curtains, blinds or drapes. To soften them I have a lot of plants around some, and the picture windows are as naked as me.
Yay for living out where no one can see me.

I agree that red curtains with red carpet may be overwhelming.

You're correct on that one R.  We just put in 7 new double hung windows in the patio room.  Curtains...nah.  I'm building window blinds that can open from the top and bottom.
It's overall a cleaner look than a curtain.  Not saying some rooms don't have curtains but I much prefer the cleaner look.  Though sometimes it is necessary to have curtains  just so the room comes together the right way.
I love fresh air..so yes windows must open and close.

He changed his mind at the last minute... thats why the red carpet..which he installed OVER hard wood floors in good condition!  His home is comfy... but not my style.
[he was worried about replacing his floor model tv set when it breaks with a floor model... that created a whole new conversation. lol]

On levolors- I have them on most windows. I like that I can adjust - like today position them to keep heat out.  It is frustrating when they fall down...  [im not an expert at installing them]

I like the plant idea.  I do like plenty of light.

Jim likes to push my buttons.  He isnt as bold as he once was... and I deflect some of it now a days. He is a leo and a perfectionist.  Some things in life you have to just let them roll.  Why fight gravity?

The nuetral color sounds good...too much red in a double living room, has got to be gaudy to my taste.  Tho if it were me I would rip up the carpet and toss it.  :-)

i hate curtains.  if i could get those windows with the blinds inside the panes of glass that would be perfect!  if i ever build a house, you can bet those will be on the must have list.  i would love to have plants in my windows, that would be perfect to me.  too bad i seem to kill more than i grow.

I have a couple of big stretches of glass in the house. 3 Pane glass door on the north side. Without thermal lined drapes I couldn't keep the place warm in winter.

But yeah, if he has a crimson carpet I'd pick a neutral; cream, parchment, eggshell, something in that family. And throw pillows that have both the carpet and the curtain colors along with a soft blue to pull it all together.

Now if I were selling my house I would take down all the curtains and let the sun and view in.

What do they mean to me?  That the room is "finished" - ie, that the remodeling is Over, the place is "complete," and that other than occassional cleaning, there's nothing left that I have to get done in order to get it ready for people other than myself to be in that room.    That, and shutting out the rest of humanity when I don't want to see/be seen.  I'm bad though - as often as not, I'll go buy a set of curtains that I really Really like, then paint and decorate the room to compliment the curtains - rather than trying to find curtains that I like that compliment an already put together room!  I usually go for heavy, light and view blocking (over blinds/mini blinds), and either a textured solid or a non-textured muted print.

Right now, there are only 3 rooms in my house that do Not currently have curtains hanging in some fashion.  My art studio - which I still have some work left to do on for things like "finishing touches" remodel wise - my business workshop, because they would be in the way in there, and my bedroom, which is the only room that I haven't yet gotten around to doing the serious remodel work on.  (I've been to busy dealing with the entire rest of the house, and the front yard, and the back yard, to deal with my bedroom yet!)  During August, the back deck is getting finished, and I'm putting in a double french door directly from my bedroom onto the back deck.  So what I'll most likely do, since I'm going to have to essentially empty the room in order to cut the hole and place the new door anyway, is paint, replace lighting, and carpet all at the same time.  Since it's the last room needing to be remodeled for the entire house to be Done in that respect - it's time I got started on it.  (Which means over the next 2 or 3 weeks, I've got to decide what color to paint it, whether or not to carpet over the old hardwood floors or just sand and refinish them, and all that sort of thing.)

I have wooden blinds up.  I am not a fan of curtains or vinyl blinds.  Shutters would be nice, but they're pricey.  When I was in college I had blankets over the windows LOL.

Those decorative outside shutters cost over $4o each. I wonderred about making a stencil and painting them on.
