So obvious, commercial pictures, or tiny thumbnail pictures, height and weight would make them "DEAD". (5'7 and 60lbs, how much longer would they be breathing?).  Always cut and paste emails sending you straight to their yahoo account.  Sometimes the profile is that of a D/s person, but mostly, pure vanilla profiles, and emails.

Where does the true problem exist? The ever increasing creation of these profiles from the scammers?
Should there be a little better screening process? Is there a way to easily screen for them?
This site is not just the only victim, all the personals sites are falling prey.

What should we do?   If someone reports the profile on here, as a scammer, does that deter them?
May profiles reported later by quite a few people, the profiles are still active and in use.

If we could only lock them all up, with those that create viruses and adware that plague is constantly.

That's my question:  what is the issue?

This is a "personals" site, and anyone with internet access is free to post a profile.  You are free to ignore the ones that don't interest you.

RCdc -> RE: Scammers and Fakes... on the increase... (7/20/2008 11:59:44 AM)

You use your own common sense.  You ignore them.  You report them if you like.  Etc.  Etc.  Etc.
But you don't let it get to you.

sambamanslilgirl -> RE: Scammers and Fakes... on the increase... (7/20/2008 12:20:50 PM)

if they (scammers and fakes) aren't here, they're on another site or IM/chatroom pulling the same scam.

makes no sense to whine and complain about it when you can simply choose to ignore, block and delete their messages. also you can report their profiles.

DesFIP -> RE: Scammers and Fakes... on the increase... (7/20/2008 12:29:13 PM)

Block and ignore, if nobody responds they'll disappear.

I don't understand people who whine about people they don't like having the same right to post a profile that they do.

PainSmith -> RE: Scammers and Fakes... on the increase... (7/20/2008 12:31:41 PM)

Ah, but you're not seeing the opportunity they present, to take the complete and total piss.

I think you tend to see more of this activity on sites that are 100% free like collarme than the paid sites.  Although you can create a profile on alt.com for free you are limited as to what you can do beyond that until you have a paid subscription.  And I don't think you see much of it at all on vanilla sites like eHarmony where there is a bit of a screening process as well as a subscription process.

pahunkboy -> RE: Scammers and Fakes... on the increase... (7/20/2008 2:07:17 PM)

the OP made 11 posts.

you have that much time invested and you are concerned about fakes.

this puts one to wonder if YOU are the fake.

now as to email spam- the scammers have increased.  i get offers for sex and drugs all the time in my email.   oh  the drug sites mispel the sunstance    which makes it  a supllement.

MsLadySue -> RE: Scammers and Fakes... on the increase... (7/20/2008 2:24:53 PM)

This being a free site, you can't expect perfection. Human nature is what it is!

windchymes -> RE: Scammers and Fakes... on the increase... (7/20/2008 2:30:18 PM)

If a picture looks too good to be true, it probably is.  Supermodels aren't in these sites desperate for love because they don't have to be.

MissMacey -> RE: Scammers and Fakes... on the increase... (7/20/2008 2:39:42 PM)

But on the interwebs, no one knows I'm a model looking for true love!

My pictures are professional because I did a costumed fetish shoot. I still look like the same and have no problem "proving" it.

I wouldn't say I'm too good to be true, but as I put up other pics which are obviously more "homemade", I would hope people get that I'm more than pretty shiny.

Hmm, my post count is low too. Would the fact that I don't live in a major city be more of a deterrent?

I know, I'll just post that I'm not a fake--that should work! *snort*

seababy -> RE: Scammers and Fakes... on the increase... (7/20/2008 2:51:21 PM)

Its not a problem. I've worked out a secret system for catching fakes and scammers.
Send me $50 and Ill  give you a list of the profiles you cant trust.
An additional $20 a month subscription gets you weekly updates to that list.
Its not alot to pay for your peace of mind.

:)

Maybe if you make a post complaining about them they'll all go away.

Would you rather the scammers be better at it? Out of curiosity, how do you know that many profiles reported by quite a few people are still active and in use? You havent set up a bunch of fake nicks to report them, have you? Otherwise, I would be interested as to the counts of that question.

FYI, scammers abound on the pay sites too.

DomAviator -> RE: Scammers and Fakes... on the increase... (7/20/2008 4:54:54 PM)

The degree of idiocy displayed by some scammers simply boggles my mind... The staff is generally pretty good at catching images but they cant be expected to recognize them all. About a month ago I was browswing profiles only to discover that Avril Lavigne was here as a slave from Texas! LOL This chicks profile picture was one of the pictures on the insert for Avril's Let Go! CD. [:D] Being an Avril fan I got a hell of a kick out of it...
