My $.02.  Submission is something you do. Slavery is something you are.  Slave's can submit, but don't have to.  Those who submit can be slaves, but most aren't.

No one will agree with me, but that's ok...I like being different.

Submissive, slave, and switch all mean absolutely fuck all nothing. They're phases people go through. Just like people who are Dominant aren't usually dominant as much as they are insecure and compensating, or just plain pissed off about something with some kind of residual anger bullshit. People who are submissive have some skeleton in their closet that makes them feel attracted to the puffed-out-chest crap most Doms spew out. Slaves are people with giant ass skeletons and a fetish for being "owned," usually out of some completely wrong, blitheringly misguided notion that their "Dom" is going to protect and take care of them. Switches are people who have decided that they like the scene, but haven't made up their mind about what part of it they like so they claim to like each, not unlike the ugly chick at every party who has three beers then suddenly announces "I'm bi" to get attention and social interaction.
Rather than accept any of the answers here, just stay a step ahead of the game and remember that nobody has any fuckin' clue.

Bitter, much?

While I certainly have seen examples of everything you wrote about, that really isn't the entirety of the scene...I think you might just need some new friends.

I was going to suggest some graham crackers & milk and then a nap.

OP, the bottom line is, there is no one single definition for the terms you asked about.  I hope that from the other responses, you get a general idea of what those terms mean to different people.

I personally dont think the term "slave" exists in this lifestyle. Slavery is and always will in my mind be something thats non consentual. I believe that there are many submissives that are deeply submissive to the point of being very slave like. But as long as their relationship is based on consent, I think its very deep submission that is slave like in nature, but not actual slavery.

Historically  there was a form  of consentual slavery referred to as indentured slave/servant  in which there was a negotiated  term that would be served  sometime with certain benefit given at the end of the term served such as an apprenticeship in a trade. such as black smith. In  early american history many white extremely poor europeans managed to settle here as a result  of becoming  indentured slaves.. the owners/moaster would pay for their passage to NA   and provide them with food and sheltering  for X number of years servitude ,  once completed they could  go free

Hello uninterested5. Quite a reply, but remember that you call yourself a ''dominant male'' which by your definition is ''more'' relative to insecurity and compensation or pent up frustration. I hope you are in the minority of  ''true''dominants that are ''secure'', ''giving'', ''serene'' and well balanced in their world view?

Quote: '' just stay a step ahead of the game and remember that nobody has any fuckin' clue.''

Do you include yourself in this? or you really do have a ''clue'' and are step ahead of the ''game'' yourself? Maybe you could enlighten us some more with your acute sens of observation and insight capabilities so we can stop doing bullshit and do or be the ''true'' whatever? Please help us, we do not all want to keep on living a lie! I want to learn the ''step ahead''!

I really enjoyed the reply you posted![sm=flying.gif] Thank you. RL.

Good, bad, I'm the guy with the gun. And by "gun," I mean "common sense." I will explain my point with a poem I wrote:

I'm eight feet tall
I'm a Dom online
I'm the toughest dude
You could ever find
I'm an Internet Explorer Warrior guy
I'm a voyeury whore with a Gorean mind

And I'm Master on the Internet
I'm Master on the Internet

Click my name
You can see my page
You can be friend
You can be my slave

I'm a Master on the Internet.

You are not a "Master" or a "Dominator" of anybody who doesn't want to be (i.e. is not actually being mastered or dominated).
So realistically, the scene is just a bunch of people with an identity they chose based on whim, desire to get laid, or the movie Secretary, bumbling around in the dark looking for a warm moist hole with "DOMMEEE" or "SUBBB" written in bright red or light pink somewhere nearby.

Now that is just what we needed....another struggling rap-star.... but isn't there already a song much like that? " I'm so much cooler online".
Luckily for us he is the only enlightened one. Perhaps he can save the world. [sm=alien.gif]

I don't know about you guys, I'm 56 and I don't know shit! The only reason you ''know everything'' at 21 is that you think you have ''all'' the knowledge that is worth having to prove your point to yourself. After this you start denouncing (rejecting) others based on their own erroneous concepts and opinions.

If one is thinking about, sex, carnal knowledge, animal like fornication and expressing his concepts to someone who is thinking about human sexuality, making love (art of) and coherent responsible life style (art of) one will always be right in his opinion that we are just dogs and bitches in heat doing and saying anything to get some.

At 21 you question the platitude of having round wheels on your cart. How quaint and unidimensional. You put square wheels so you will have all that extra up and down action that makes you feel so alive, so unique and uber different (false art). The problem with this is that you can have only two outcomes: Either the ''vibrations'' eventually destroys the integrity of the cart and you come to full stop (all fucked up) or the wheels eventually lose their ''pointy'' aspects (asperities) to the natural laws of physics.

Yes, with time the wheels round off, become more and more efficient up to the point you realize that you don't know shit! Sex is not sexuality, fucking is not love making and calling everyone on their bullshit (narrow narcissist world view) is not the way to understanding why you put round wheels on a cart.

I am just saying this to explain why I enjoyed so much a young man's ''ahead of the game'' reply to a submissive just seeking ''basic'' information. We should not bash the 21 year old seeking kinky freedom, we should help them.

I do not think that anything was wrong about what he said, there is some truth to it. One day he will have opinions based on less ''selected'' aspects that suit what he wants to perceive or keep him from exploring  the more ''scary''
parts of the human psyche like love. Dogs ''fuck'' each other, humans ''love'' each other.

Love is the ''game'' not kink. Kink is fun, joyous but it is not the whole complex whole (wet ''hole'' he said?). RL

A) I never thought I knew everything, mostly in college I thought how on earth are we going to survive the next few decades?

B) Someone has to know something at some point, some people happen to actually know a lot before they are 20, some never will.

A switch is someone who can be, desires to be, or is Dominant sometimes and submissive sometimes.

A switch can also be someone who changes between Top and bottom, but NOT Dom or Sub role. In my world, Top =/=Dom always.
