I like to be called by my name when being discussed.  But I like the word sir (with a little s, not a capital one), when used similar to the way a waiter says 'sir'.

It is not a title to me, but a term of respect used in place of my name.

LuckyAlbatross:  Perhaps I should clarify something. My question pertains to what those dominants would want to be called by their submissive/slave/non-dominant. Does your answer still apply? Are there dominants who might not want to be referred to by some special term? And was there really a dominant you called Master Muffin? *LOL*

Yes, many doms abhor special scene names, pet names or any honorific at all.  Unless I'm in a scene with someone, I prefer my given name to be used.

While I have not called a dom master muffin, I have used many other vanilla pet names or "scandalous names" because my partners all enjoyed a laugh and understood that us laughing over kink conventions was a form of intimacy between us and in no way reflect a lack of respect or authority between us.

But a former poster around here did indeed often call her master "Master Muffin" and they both quite enjoyed it.

Don't make the mistake of thinking because we're kinky we have no taboos- there's lots of things kinky people "shouldn't do" or they'll upset the status quo.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Sir/Maam, Master/Mistress & other terms of endearment (7/21/2008 6:37:59 PM)

I like being called by my name. I pointed out to a new friend that he has never once called me "ma'am", which pretty much EVERYONE does, though I have never prompted them to.  He asked, 'Why the HELL would I call you that?"   I tried to explain, when I got done laughing!

When I am in a close relationship, by which I mean a sexual or romantic one, I dislike titles as they increase distance.  When I am dealing with a servant, sub, or slave, Miss or ma'am is as fancy as I need to be.  The idea is that they address me respectfully, that's all.

Amadan -> RE: Sir/Maam, Master/Mistress & other terms of endearment (7/22/2008 1:13:48 AM)

I'm not real big on titles myself, but if someone really wants to use one I tend respond best to "mi'lord".

Too many years of Ren Faire, that is.

After one ill fated session of Great Dalmuti I've on occasion been addressed as "O, Dread Lord"

I find it offensive if I am called "Master". I prefer "Sir" or "OB" or "OB, Sir" but NOT "Sir OB". My s-type ( and others in my D/s family ) call me "Poppa". I also do not mind at all when someone addresses me by my actual name.

No OB Wan either, I presume.  [At work, they call me...Toodles.]

I don't consider myself a master of D/s, merely a student.

very well said heavanskeeper ...I am not a master to all.. just to my pet....I feel her calling me master helps remind her that she belongs to me , I do not expect anyone else to call me this nor do I want them to unless I have taken them as my own .

monywildcat -> RE: Sir/Maam, Master/Mistress & other terms of endearment (7/22/2008 6:46:26 PM)

I don't see myself as the sort of person that would utter "master" to anyone.  I too, sir and ma'am everybody, and wave to people that drive by my house when I am outside on the porch.  I'm country that I way, I suppose.

I'm so going to use Master Muffin at every given opportunity!!!  Thanx LA!  Can I tack on to that, Master Muffin Manly Man has a nice ring to it.  I'll quote you I swear.  [image]http://www.collarchat.com/micons/m11.gif[/image]

Sounds great to me :)

MasterFireMaam -> RE: Sir/Maam, Master/Mistress & other terms of endearment (7/22/2008 11:12:19 PM)

Actually, I don't like the assumption that Master is male. "slave" is gender neutral in this community..."Master" should be, too, in my community's opinion.

So, I guess you could say that I don't like to be called Mistress...but I do prefer Ma'am.

But, note, calling me Master isn't a requirement. I use it because it's who I have judged myself to be...you may not, and that's perfectly fine.

I don't allow most people to call me by my first name, although I do love my name. I don't let my slave call me by it, and I specifically forbid him from calling me Ma'am or Mistress. I don't get my power from a title. He can call me Owner if he wants to.

Mostly my slave uses whatever terms of endearment he likes, to address me because that is my preference. I love it when he calls me honey!

ownedgirlie -> RE: Sir/Maam, Master/Mistress & other terms of endearment (7/24/2008 11:32:52 PM)

My Master prefers to call me Master, because he is my Master. Prior to him being my Master, I called him Sir, which he also preferred.

I also call him Mr. Wonderful.

Psychodahlia -> RE: Sir/Maam, Master/Mistress & other terms of endearment (7/25/2008 1:41:33 PM)

I think the only time titles bug me are when they come from people I'm not in a relationship with. I hate it when random guys pm me, calling me 'Ma'am/Mistress/Lady/Whatever'. I don't know them and I don't want to be that close with them. I view someone calling me that, without my permission, as being very forward.

EbonyPhoenix68 -> RE: Sir/Maam, Master/Mistress & other terms of endearment (7/26/2008 7:29:43 AM)

I personally do not like being referred to as "Master" because to me:

1) This is an earned term of endearment as it is translated from the Spanish term "maestro", meaning "teacher".
2) At this time, it doesn't do a thing for me.
3) I much prefer being called Sir.
