Hi!

I hope this doesn't come across as stupid as it feels to type this, but I don't know how else to put it. Are there any dominants out there who prefer not to be called Sir/Maam or Master/Mistress? (Depending on one's gender of course.) Are there other terms you prefer?

I've heard many couples with military experience not liking the term "Sir" for obvious reasons.

As for me, I only like to be called "sir" when she is being humiliated, when I could be "any man using her."  I've grown to prefer the term "master" solely because it is more personal than "sir".  I don't consider myself a master of D/s, merely a student.

She has always preffered to call me master, as "sir" never felt right to her.  Neither did daddy, chief, owner, or keeper.

Yes- many.  Anything from the scandalous act of using their given legal name, to "Master Muffin"  Kinky people are no different than others when it comes to giving and using pet names.

HeavansKeeper:  That's how I feel! Sir sounds so formal.

LuckyAlbatross:  Perhaps I should clarify something. My question pertains to what those dominants would want to be called by their submissive/slave/non-dominant. Does your answer still apply? Are there dominants who might not want to be referred to by some special term? And was there really a dominant you called Master Muffin? *LOL*

I HATE when soemone calls me ma'am. I'm only 23 and I don't want to be called something that I feel is for an older woman. Ma'am is a term I'd use for an elderly woman to be polite; yes, I said elderly. I'd call a woman who was older than me but not elderly miss.

I don't mind Mistress but I prefer Princess if someone has to call me something other than my name.

As for a dom, I couldn't call one Master. Been there, done that and I hate it.

I've always used Miss in reference to younger females.  Usually UMs.  Sometimes I'll call an adult female "Miss" to be condescending.

When we play he likes to be called Sir.  Sir or Master just doesn't work for us in our normal day.  He then prefers that I call him by his name or I can use the term Sweetheart.

I was in Pacific Sunwear the other day with my daughter clothes shopping. I Ma'amed the girl at the checkout (who was probably my daughter's age) at the end of the transaction and wondered on my way out if it bugged her. I was born and raised up north where Ma'am and Sir were not a big deal but I've lived down south for thirty years and picked it up from the locals.

I Sir and Ma'am everyone. Everywhere. At the mall or at a munch. Vanilla and kinky. Male and female. Dominant and submissive.

on the flipside side, my pet calls me Owner or Mistress (depending on my mood) however i like it when he says "friend"

I find it offensive if I am called "Master". I prefer "Sir" or "OB" or "OB, Sir" but NOT "Sir OB". My s-type ( and others in my D/s family ) call me "Poppa". I also do not mind at all when someone addresses me by my actual name.

I usually call him Honey or Sweetheart. We're not just in a d/s relationship. We're lovers, best friends, etc. In play sometimes Sir or Master but usually I'm gagged so no chance to say anything.

Daddy/Mommy are the first that come to mind.  As a Domme I prefer Miss to other titles.

Of course, there are pet names in most relationships.  In emails I often call my Master "sweet cheeks", or "handsome".  He will call me "pet" or "babygurl".  Names are only limited by the dynamic.  If there are not rigid rules then only your imagination limits you as to what you may call each other.

Hrmmmm, let's see.  How about sweety, bunny, honey, and coffee-bitch.  These are all names my slave girl calls me and I like them all.  When she's emphasizing the BDSM context, I prefer master, but honestly don't really care.

I had an ex that Wished to be called Lord Master Fru Fru of all things frilly.

Usually I stick with Daddy, or a mumbled version of it, His name, A mew with a tilted head, sweetheart, hunny bunch, sweetcheeks, baby. If I use Sir or Master Ive prolly done something wrong and am now sucking up.

I don't normaly ask to be called any thing besides my name untill much later in a relationship, but many want to salute with Miss, Mistress, etc.
I have always prefered Lady or M'Lady if they have to call me something.

I like to be called Lord Diabolicus Infernum Draconis Oculum Malificus Deathus Maimor Cortez XVIII. Anything less and I will beat my sub mercilessly.

I call Master Master.  If I am feeling.."dangerous"  I call him Dr. Mr. Master Type Person... I do that from the safety of a living room apart where I can get a head start on the running.

I don't like being called ma'am, as I somehow connect that word to an old lady. I don't like the word mistress either, as the most common use for that word is a woman who part takes in adultery. Empress, goddess, etc. reek of overinflated ego to me.

As with the male terms, the short time that I actually submitted my spouse wanted me to call him jarl. I never could do it without snickering and feeling a cold chill of idiocy crawl up my back. That protocol hence shortly died out. The same with the other terms of endearment. I've never really gotten why people have to have a title to emphasize their dominance.

I was raised out west by a very strong woman, my mother. She taught me it was polite to call a woman ma'am until I got to know her well enough to call her something else. She is the only woman who could ever really tell me anything. So, I do call a woman ma'am. I don't mean it by age and I don't do it to bother a woman. It's just a sign of respect. Where I was raised, Missy would be condescending. Just my viewpoint. If it bothers a woman, I don't call her that.
