KnottyMcLovin -> Impact Toys...Where to start? (7/20/2008 10:52:01 PM)

I'm trying to develope a toy bag of better impact gear, and my subbie, who is wonderful, has tastes that seem to be developed by experiences she's had with things around the house.  I too have been experimenting with everday stuff we can get at the hardware store, etc. but we need to build or tool box.  What kinds of things do, or did, you find best for impact play when you first started out.  I'm thinking of a well made elk skin flogger, not to expensive.  We have a riding crop, a wooden paddle, wooden spoon, rubber spatuala, feather duster, cuffs, cat'o'9 woven out of rope, and a plaited rope I use as a quirt at times.  From there I think a short deer skin 50 strand flogger for fluffy warm ups a, then maybe a tomcat/galley whip type thing with elk or cow to go from light to intense, a rubber paddle, a bamboo or wicker cane, and bull leather/ rubber mop for super thud, and finally a short single tail with a wide fall. like a 'slapper whip" on Mr S http://www.snakewhip.com/catalog1/Adult-Toys/c36/p105/The-Scorpion/product_info.html

What do you all think?

I think you should get out in your local community, watch others play, see what they use that interests you. Sometimes a toy sounds good on paper, in a story/fantasy but in real life, it can be different. That might save you some money & time.

OP, I second OB above.  You sound like you're very new to this, and some of your toys sound pretty heavy duty.  Make sure that someone knowledgeable shows you how to use them properly before you use them.

my personal favorite is his belt, or is that too simple for you?!

Do you know how to use a single tail? Are you willing to hang a playing card on a thread and practice nightly for weeks or months before you can hit it exactly in the middle every single time? Because if you don't have that commitment to learning this skill, don't get one.

Honestly, I second or third OB. Watch demos, take workshops, ask people about the learning curve for use and ask the demo sub about where the pain is on a 1-10 scale. Because if it's a 9 and your sub can't go any higher than a 4, then you'll be frustrated and angry, and so will she, plus you'll have wasted a lot of money.

If you can get to a big gathering, like the Fetish Flea in Boston, or Folsom, or Shibaricon or any large assembly you will be able to feel the toys in your hand from the venders. That might be a worthwhile thing too.

First and for most be safe and start slow and build from there.  Some of the stuff you are mentioning are very heavy for the inexperienced and can hurt your SO if not used properly.

Check out some of the older threads. There is good info and web links for techniques.   In part depends on your SO’s tolerance level.

I personally have found you can go to the local craft stores and buy the supplies to make a lot of the toy for half the price. Then modify to taste.

A lot of those sounded good to me at first, but luckily my Dom had a lot more experience than I did and knew enough to learn my limits before pursuing the higher end items.  Instead my Dom designed this great thing we called a Flat Kat.  http://www.geocities.com/sadistic_furniture/accessories.html  It's out of a soft nylon material used for climbing.    It really depends on how hard you swing for how much you feel.  It's been a WONDERFUL mid-range thud/ slap toy to me.   Easily my favorite.. and I made it with my own two hands.  :D

When i think impact , elk and deer  floggers and feather s do not come to mind .
Frat paddles - hair brushes - weighted police type  gloves , leather  gloves - canes of all types - barber straps - belts , are a good start .
I also agree with the above posters , watch , learn , and try and know what your doing before you beat on someone or have them beat on you . You being safe is priority . perveratables from random store s are a great way to go as is ebay  and your own pervy craft s .
