lilKinkster -> sub-drop...What is it? (11/14/2005 6:52:00 PM)

Just as a preface to this as I am rather new to posting...

I am a sub. with a Master for only a few weeks now. However, we are entertaining the notion of this being an LTR sort of scenario...Vanilla aspects, blending of families etc. He does live about an hour and a half away at this time so I get to see him only about once a week so far.

I am rather new to D/s (2 1/2 months to be exact) and I have experienced what I would call sub-drop on several occassions. The last episode I am just recovering from. I know it has something to do with the after-care part of a scene but this last episode had a bit of a twist.

The first part of the evening was Hot and my Master did things to me that he hadn't done before and by the time we stopped to take a rest I was in sub-space. We cuddled and talked for a bit, had something to eat and then "tried" to watch a movie, not a chance [;)] But for the rest of the evening there was this undercurrent of...I want to say weirdness...but that isn't quite the term for it. It affected my later performance and I was getting moody and insecure, which is not the norm for me, etc. and I and my Master couldn't figure out why. This feeling persisted up until now, when it just occured to me that I had felt it before, not with my current Master but after I had scened with the Man who introduced me to D/s to start with. To me it is like coming down off a drug and it really SUCKS.

What I want to know is if any of you have experienced this? Do Doms experience an equivalent? What sorts of things do you find help prevent or even alleviate the symtoms? Any and all comments are welcome.

lK.

As far as I've been able to figure, the feeling that I identify as sub-drop is exactly that...coming down off a dose of adrenaline, endorphins, hormones....

Quite a chemical cocktail.

I'm not sure there is anything you can do to really avoid it, although many people swear that having something sweet like fruit or chocolate after a scene helps.

There is definitely a coming down from a "high" caused by adrenalin, endorphins, etc. I call it "crashing"....and it seems to happen about a 1/2 hour after the scene ends. The "crash", for me, lasts about 1/2 hour and then I come back "up" to normal. But during that time, I, too, get moody, a little depressed, feel out of sorts. At least I know what causes it and that it will be over with soon. And I've learned to warn new partners that this does happen so they don't take it personally.

As if you were on a drug high, only natural and just like eating sweets you crash as the sensations cease and the body winds down; the body attempts to compensate for the high and when the over stimulation ceases the body is still trying to over compensate.

We cuddled and talked for a bit, had something to eat and then "tried" to watch a movie, not a chance [;)] But for the rest of the evening there was this undercurrent of...I want to say weirdness...but that isn't quite the term for it.

Yes it does and it is proof that you had a unique experience for you

What I want to know is if any of you have experienced this? Do Doms experience an equivalent?

In the right enviornment, the uniqueness of the experience, the feelings, the stimulation, will bring it back all over again. Yes Doms experience the same thing given the right set of circumstances, intensities, etc..

What sorts of things do you find help prevent or even alleviate the symtoms? Any and all comments are welcome.

The alleviation of subspace is in the hands of Your Master. The alleviation of subdrop is controllable, not avoidable. Try keeping your blood sugars in check. For most this helps intensely; the crash won't be as severe. After an intense scene try using some things like Poweraide, cookies, etc... even using Pediolyte(works better)
Entering subspace is a workout for both body and mind. Preparing for that intensity; espicially in aftercare is important.

I experience this also. Its almost a feeling of "guilt" for what you just allowed yourself to do, have done to you. Also for me its almost a feeling of "He did not like it, I did not do my best job". ASk for reassurance and a piece of candy. I swear the candy helps.

They have these Glacemic tablets you suck on during a hypo-glacemic atack, they are full of sugar to help bring blood pressure back up during a hypoglacemic atack(medical condition causing the blood pressure to drop and cause a state of weakness, and sometimes passing out.). I use these pills( they are quatar size and taste like watermelon, cherry, orange) and they really do help. You can buy them in your pharmacy, walmart, walgreens. I recomend atlest trying them once. And remember if they don't help try candy, cake, juice...ask permission first!

And remember to ask for your Masters reassurance. It helps with the feelings of inadiquacy.

Goodluck...

I have watched a pattern with myself. After we do something intense, im flying for about 24 hours afterwards..after that i go thru an intense period of desire to have it repeated...anything repeated....if that does not happen..then i go into a sadness inside.. i wouldnt call it depression...more like when you really really want something but arent getting it, but at the same time you know whats happening so can deal with it even though you dont like the feeling...i can be emotionally vulnerable during that period...then comes the void feeling...then i level out.

OsideGirl -> RE: sub-drop...What is it? (11/15/2005 1:46:27 PM)

About half and hour after a scene my blood sugar drops and I become shaky. Having something sweet helps me from becoming entirely disoriented. I drop about 3 days later/ ie: If we played on Saturday, on Tuesday I will sub drop.

According to Master he also has Dom drop, usually about 30 minutes to an hour after the scene is over.

katinka -> RE: sub-drop...What is it? (11/15/2005 5:12:17 PM)

I am glad to hear that sub drop can happen a fairly short time after a scene has ended. I experienced the symptoms once (I don't get the opportunity to play very frequently) but based on the reading I had done felt that it couldn't be sub drop because it occurred very soon after the scene had ended.

Toya -> RE: sub-drop...What is it? (11/15/2005 10:08:10 PM)

There are some things that you can do to help avoid sub drop, and to deal with it when it happens.

1. Eat a good meal before you play. This keeps your blood sugars where they should be.
2. Drink something sweet after play.
3. Keep in contact with the dominant (if you are not together), just talking helps - you are probably both experiencing drop.
4. Pamper yourself a bit, soak in a long hot bubble bath.
5. Know that this feeling will pass.

For every high there is a corresponding low. The better the scene the more likely the drop that will follow. Usually people who play often or regularly have less drop as their body adjusts to their routine.

These are all great suggestions, I especially find the chocolate rather appealing [:D] Like I need ANOTHER excuse to indulge!

We are going to definitely try a few of these this weekend as I am going to see Sir for TWO whole nights. I'll keep you posted on how they work.

Personally, my sub drop/frenzy is more like really really bad PMS. To be honest i thought it WAS bad PMS until i read a post from a submale which described the same exact things i would go through.

dominmd -> RE: sub-drop...What is it? (11/17/2005 4:52:07 PM)

Happened to me last week after I was tickle tortured for only 20 minutes. I was worn out and flying high then slam back to earth. It did not last long since I was back 30 minutes later doing massages at the party.

sixseven -> RE: sub-drop...What is it? (11/18/2005 11:10:08 AM)

i have that exact same feeling....Master generally motions me to rest at His feet until i come down and then we discuss the scene, positives and negatives......
i too havevery fleeting"feelings of guilt" at what i allow Him to do to me, even though i enjoy every single minute of it, in retrospect,but i have learned to deal with this by being honest about my "emotions" at this time, and often end up sobbing with the release...
there is also at times the desire for a scene to continue, to be whipped longer say, and the coming down is like a void, an emptiness....but after a period of rest and Master questioning whether i'm ok and do i need more time to come down or would i like to talk about how i feel than i begin to have a feeling of calm come over me
a very intense session sometimes brings these feelings over a full 24 hour period, but at least now i know what causes it and deal with it accordingly....often just cuddling up in a warm blanket helps with those shakes, unless you have a Master willing to hug you till you come back to earth.....

The last time i went to see Sir, we played pretty much until it was time for me to catch my plane. i cried all the way to the airport then all the way home. i guess it's normal.

Hey all,

I am back from my weekend with Sir and I am happy to report that even though I experienced sub-drop today, we were prepared for it. I had some chocolate and an OJ and a few mins of cuddling with Sir and I am pretty much back to "normal", except for the killer fatigue - my bed is calling me rather loudly at this moment. There are still some lingering effects but the edge was taken off almost automatically. I can't thank all of you for your suggestions enough.

MastersBabieGirl -> RE: sub-drop...What is it? (11/21/2005 7:17:08 AM)

i get this but never knew it had a name lol
i was lucky and my master prepared me for the emotional break down before we started together
he talks soothingly to me then as i start to come out more about mundane daily things
has me drink and have a snack
works wonders
