oh wow....i can't believe i missed this thread.
here's a list of some of the books i've been reading lately.....
"The Taste of Place" by Amy Trubek. a discussion on the concept of terroir in relation to food/taste and where your food comes from.
"In Defense of Food" by Michael Pollan. a book about escaping the western diet and re-learning which foods are healthy and how to return food to it's proper context.
(if you can't tell....i'm a bit of a foodie! and yes, i do read cookbooks.)
"Farewell My Subaru" by Doug Fine. yuppie moves to New Mexico to "live off the land" and learns it's not always as easy as what they say in books! good read.....and in between the humor you find some real thought-provoking ideas.
"The Second Journey...The Road Back to Yourself" by Joan Anderson. life for a woman, part two.
"French Tryst...secrets of a Courtesan" by Kirsten Lobe. chick-lit fluff.....but hey, sometimes we all need to take a break from the serious!
"Song of Kali" by Dan Simmons. fantasy meets horror meets hinduism and it will scare the crap out of you!
"Three Short Novels" by Colette. classics....Gigi, Julie de Carneilhan and Chance Acquaintances.
"Stick Out Your Tongue" by Ma Jian. "a revelation: a startlingly vivid portrait of Tibet, both enchanting and horrifying, beautiful and violent, seductive and perverse." beautiful and haunting, i would add.
enjoy your summer......and btw, Moby Dick was one of my least favorite books ever!
