Hi all,

I just had a quick question about massage oils. My girlfriend has been gone on a long trip (over 2 and a half months) and will be getting back in a few weeks. I want to surprise her with a nice, erotic massage when she gets off the plane (a 12 hour trip!!!) and I wanted to try out massage oils on her, to see if she enjoys them. I've never used them before, and was curious what brands are good, and what scents might be enjoyable. The only thing I know for sure is that she hates artificial fruit scents.

Thanks, and I appreciate any help!

H.

Oil is oil is oil.  Pick something that has a scent you know she'll like.

I recommend sesame oil, cold pressed. Warm it before applying it. It feels good and has health benefits.

There are many differences in oils. In my opinion, "oil is oil is oil" is a rather simplistic view.

if she doesnt' like the artificial scents, then get the pure oils.  go to wholefoods or a salon like Aveda.  sometimes the pure oils are very strong, but you can dilute them in another type of oil, my favorite is coconut....no scent and it has a ph that is close to that of our skin.

edited for clarity.[;)]

if she doesnt like the fruit scents, try a light patchouli, or maybe lavender.. because she doesnt like teh fruit scents I'm guessing she probably wont like ANY strong scent... I've found very light patchoulis which are nice.  I've yet to find a rose that doesnt stay in the nose.  lilac, maybe... try going to Body Works or something similar and ask their opinion for light scents

Well, yes, actually, I was trying to keep it simple.  The purpose of oil in a massage is lubrication.  As far as I'm aware (although I'm not a scientist/chemist/whatever), all oils have the ability to lubricate the skin.  It's not like they're going to eat the stuff.

If she likes the smell of baby oil, use that.  If he wants to make his own, he can pick up a bottle of mineral oil at Walmart and put a drop of rose oil or lavender oil or whatever in it.  If the smell of salad turns her on, he can use olive oil.

Or he can spend a bunch of money on a tiny bottle of something packaged as "massage oil for lovers" or some such.

Mineral oil is very drying to the skin, I would not recommend it.

The sesame oil suggestion is a good one, so is almond oil. These are two excellent lite oils suitable for massage. Your local health food store will stock them, along with an array of essential oils. If you are not sure of what scents she likes, it's hard to go wrong with lavender or vanilla.

I make my own massage oil with a blend of sandalwood, lavender and vanilla that is just divine.

Oh god almond oil messes badly with my chemistry 'down there'. Horribly so! I can't use it on my face either or I go blotchy and hypersensitive, yuck. It takes weeks for me to get back in balance and get rid of the effects.

The only slippery stuff that I don't react badly to is the KY line, they now have quite a few different varieties both scented and unscented.

If no skin reactions are anticipated then just about any skin cream or oil will work.
Bath & Body Works has tons of the stuff (pricey in my mind tho) or just scan the aisles of your local drugstore.

What a nice idea, to welcome her home with a decadent massage. Yummmmmm.

Sesame oil is probably your best bet. Also you could try olive oil. Both are extremely hypo-alergenic although the olive oil is a bit thicker and heavier. Camille, do you have any nut allergies because that could be one of the reasons for your strong reaction to the almond oil. As a Massage Therapist I actually fall back on olive oil quite often and have had no problems as of yet.

MistressSybella -> RE: Massage Oils (7/22/2008 1:24:00 PM)

You could pick up a Kama Sutra massage oil sampler. There are 5 two ounce bottles in there, in an array of blended scents.

We tend to favour plain and simple baby oil, although almond oil has also been used.

However, for moments when you want a quick massage without the slippery after effects of oil, or for hairy men, try some talcum powder.

All oils are not created equal!
Suggest you buy massage oil specifically for the purpose from some place like the Body Shop or a massage therapist, including unscented, and try to find a coconut one [also melts at close to body temperature], and just for fun one that warms with friction/breathing on it from a sex shop.

To a bottle of the unscented oil, put a couple of drops of cologne that she loves, either that she wears or has complimented when you've worn it.
NEVER PUT OIL ON FEMALE GENITALS, but go to town on the breasts, back, feet, hands, buttocks.
Put a soft old blanket over the bedclothes; nothing ruins the mood like stains, spills, cursing and laundry.
Put the massage oil bottles in a bowl of warm water, and pump some first on the backs of your hands, then on your partner; never apply directly to skin without warming first.

And don't feel bad if she falls asleep:  it's a compliment!

ps: and do put them into pump bottles so you can get more oil with one hand and always keep one hand connecting you to your partner.  Awwww ....

Actually no, I have absolutely no allergies like that. I've often wondered if it is something that goes along with the Lupus, Fibro etc because that does cause severe sensitivities to things. I don't think I had problems with almond oil when I was young, or at least not that I remember.
Aloe also irritates the beejezus out of me, I go itchy and later my skin becomes almost parched feeling.

There are few soaps I can use and nothing scented on my skin, I know that while perfume bothered me aurally as a kid I could wear it without problems but not any longer. Now I am totally hyper sensitive to fragrance as well which is a bummer because there are scents I really like in brief moments. Spice fragrances are my favorite. Floral and the like, not so much.

I'm going to self experiment with sesame oil and give it a try.

My first suggestion it to wait until you get home to to do the massage.

:p

I prefer lotion. I have one with hardly any scent that contains aloe, ivy, and arnica and absorbs easily into skin. I studied massage and this lotion is what I used while in school. I would go to a local massage supply store and ask them what they have--the products there are well suited for massage and are often neutral on the scent.

If the oil must be edible, you can get edible massage oils at most adult boutiques.

Cheers,

Sea

Interesting, that is probably why it makes me very itchy after we use it to massage him.  I am going to ask Alandra if she can find some sesame oil to try instead.

As a Massage Therapist and Massage Instructor I can tell you mineral Oil is the worse thing. Clogs the pores. What is better is an Almond oil, sesame, grape seed oil, jojaba or even Olive oil. Matter of fact many people swear by olive oil, externally, as well as internally.

kyraofMists -> RE: Massage Oils (7/22/2008 5:08:41 PM)

Thank you for that information.

I had been given permission a long time ago to find something else to use since one night I was irritating him because I was so itchy while trying to go to sleep, but didn't find anything I liked.  Now I have some new ideas...  that is cool.

Thanks again

Thanks for all the help. It seems as though I'm either going to find some cheap sesame oil and an empty pump bottle, or I'm going to have to look for a massage supply store nearby.

I really appreciate all the input, and thanks again!

LPslittleclip -> RE: Massage Oils (7/22/2008 8:12:23 PM)

sesame oil is a safe bet warmed above a tea light candle work from the feet up to the midriff and hands to the neck and then down. this is to help the lymph flow better. covering her all but the limb being rubbed. the face should be last as it is most sensitive.

Emerita is a great massage oil and you can find it at any health food store.  Another one that feels great on the hands and skin is ky jelly warming massage oil.  even though it says "safe for intimate areas"... I STRONGLY suggest you use something else for intimate areas.
