While von hagens plastination process is really interesting, and the exhibit fascinating, I did find his televised autopsies hard to watch. The cadavers faces were covered, but I still could see that it was a human being getting opened up and having their livers/kidneys/etc cut out, handled and shown to the audience. The one I remember most was an elderly lady. I kept thinking of my mum.

I'm with the organ donors and then cremate the rest thinkers.  As long as no one snorts my ashes, I'm ok with whatever happens.[:D]

Unfortunately, being "mulched" and put back into the system seems to be illegal (go figure!) So, I guess I'll leave my body to science, and let them use it on one of those "body farms" where they gather data on how bodies decompose for forensics baselines...

Maybe I'll get lucky, and they'll test on my remains how bodies decompose when left in a wine barrel or something cool like that...

I was going to ask to be entombed in the cheapest way but even that is too expensive. I believe I'll donate the remains to the "Body Farm" for the good of Criminology![sm=mrpuffy.gif]

I've already signed the paperwork to donate my remains to science. When I'm dead, there's a special number to call. Hopefully, the family will have an opportunity to 'grok'...  The local hospital where I am (provided I didn't die suddenly at home) will remove any useful organs for donation. Then the service will come, pick up my body, divvy it up among several medical schools and research centers in the area (or leave it whole if they're in need of cadavers for dissection), and use my body parts for research. If there are any pieces left over, those pieces are cremated and returned to my family, at which point I want the few ashes left scattered from Mt. Denali... if there's enough, maybe one of those lifegem things -and- Denali, but definitely Denali.

I don't want a funeral, but if they want to throw a party, I'm all for that. Take a few hundred from the insurance, and make sure it's a good one... only friends, though (or family that I like well enough to consider them friends).

I, too, fall into the donate then cremate line.  My children know my wishes and they decided amongst themselves (on the way to the cemetary for a family member's burial) that they will split my ashes 3 ways, each of them taking a part.  My oldest says he is keeping his part of me in a Cool Whip bowl *snort*.

I wanna be rolled up in a rug, weighted down with cement and fed to the fishes ..... wait .... thats probably what is going to happen.
I've been working pretty hard at making my organs unusable so I guess its just cremation.  Then, I want my ashes mixed into the concrete used to make a statue of some kind here on the place we're building.  Maybe a statue of me in my renfaire outfit but with a little extra concrete in the crotch area.... well hung for eternity and always hard as a rock.

I have asked my parents what they want done and their response is that they don't care. We have no family plot or anything like that. Honestly it disturbs me a bit, that they have absolutely no preference and will end up leaving the choice to their four daughters. Ugh. I can already see the fight between the born again sister, the socialite sister and the rest.

Oddly I have the same thing, I don't care. I would prefer to be divvied up and spread around for folks to cut on and learn from, although I don't think I have an especially interesting body.
If there were such a thing as a family plot then I would want to be there, but there isn't.

I am an organ donor on my drivers license but have yet to do a living will or even a general dead will. Need to get around to that eventually.

I'd really like to be taken and dumped in a wilderness location so that I'd just become part of the circle of life. Food for the critters and maybe a family of chipmunks could build a new home in my skull or something. As that is not a legal thing to do as far as I know, I will likely opt for cremation and have my partner sprinkle a little of me in some of my favorite places....and a little of me in all of the cool places he makes it to after I'm gone.

A good friend's wife chose the donate to science route. Now it turns out this didn't actually "consume" her. So about a year later her ashes were returned to my friend so he does now have to decide what to do with them. So for those donating to science, including myself, you should also specify what to do with any resulting ashes.

I've posted this somewhere before, but Holly wants to be fed to polar bears.  I don't particularly care, although I'm all for a quick, non-preserved burial.

I've already filled out the paperwork to donate my body to the local university. Whatever is left they cremate for free.

Personally, I have no particular attachement to this body after I am finished with it. I just think burial is a complete and utter waste of money and real estate.

What my family chooses to do with the ashes is up to them. I've asked that they get spread over my little farm on the hill.

I don't intend for any of my internal organs to be in good enough condition to "reuse" when I die, so no organ donation here.
 
Mom was cremated (and the ashes kept) dad has already arranged his cremation upon death.  What my 'orders' are from him - via his will, living will, trust paperwork, poa, etc ad nauseum (he wanted to make Sure I didn't forget about what He wanted done!) is to mix their ashes when he's gone and then have them mixed with the morter between the stones of a new enclosure at a local wildlife refuge/rescue park.  So last year, on the 5th anniverary of mom's death, I went and started sponcering one of their baby tigers - I give them a small monthly donation to help defray the costs of housing, feeding and maintaining the big cat's health - and for that, I got to name one of their newborn Siberian cubs, I got to play with her and help feed her until she got past a certain body weight, and I still get to go in and play with their other various younger cubs when they've got them around.  I consider it a living tribute to her memory.
 
As for myself - well - I doubt there's going to be many people show up for my funeral regardless of whether I'm cremated or planted whole.  Unless it's old enemies showing up to make sure I'm really Dead, and to dance on the grave lol.  If I could actually choose and be assured that it would be carried out.... hmm. Cremation, and then scatter the ashes on the wind at 15,000 agl over central Oklahoma - where I was born, raised, and will most likely grow old.

IT makes no difference to me either way,it has served its purpose very well and after all I shall return again In a brand new spanking one smile..I will be cremated and my ashes placed in the New River where I have spent some very happy days..
